Someone in the know please help me understand exactly why an engineering student ought to learn about “sexuality through a subaltern lens”? Or about “decolonizing intersexuality from city spaces”?

How does “nuptial hermeneutics” help a civil engineer’s engineering skills?

Pray tell why a computer engineer must “expand his worldview” to “faith-based humanitarianism” and “Rohingyas in Hyderabad.”

Does a gender-studies grad at DU feel the need to learn about rocket fuels? Do African Studies students at JNU need to go interdisciplinary with neural networks? Then why must this unproductive burden of “expanding your worldview” always fall on STEM folks?

No, am not saying humanities brings no value to the table. It helps to learn about the environmental impact of engineering decisions and how designs can be made more accessible to the disabled. It pays to learn how energy ties into geopolitics and how wars can be prevented with better resource planning. It absolutely helps to learn accounting as a chemical engineer or business management as a mechanical engineer.

But is that what’s happening at humanities departments at not only IITs but everywhere? In its current form, Humanities is the most counterproductive resource sink in academia and no amount of smug superiority is gonna change that.
