Hippos have extremely thick but sensitive skin; they spend most daylight hours immersed in or covered in mud to protect themselves from burning ☀️
Their feeding shapes vegetation patterns along the water edge, and their dung contributes to aquatic food web. Despite their 'cute' exterior, hippos are one of the largest land mammals and are known to be highly territorial and very dangerous.
