Suicide is in the news again after the recent death of a celebrity. & there are many ppl begging those who are struggling to "reach out" & "get help". While those sentiments are well-intentioned, they aren't always helpful. So, I give to you:
Helping a suicidal loved one - a 🧵
@PattyHajdu I'm a permanently disabled Canadian. I cannot participate in my community b/c STANDARD, PROVEN healthcare like physiotherapy ($87.50/session) & counseling ($150/hr) are complete out of reach. I'd be in better health & able to contribute meaningfully IF treatment was accessible!
@ODSPoor@The280Times We need to FLOOD them with complaints. If for no other reason than to document the extent of ablesim built into every institution in Canada.
@rupasubramanya I'm so sick of this faux outrage from the right over MAiD. You feign sorrow over someone w/ a mental illness accessing MAiD, and in the next breath talk about how the unhoused are ruining cities & social assistance is being abused. Do you want to help those w/ MI or let them die?
@BenWoodfinden From the 2024 Point-in-Time count, there were 2371 unhoused people in Waterloo Region & 301 shelter beds.
Do you see the problem? I'll give you a hint - it has NOTHING to do with "activist" judges.
@1StarAtaTyme I want to say "lawfully? By any means necessary! And then we'll just rewrite the laws to make whatever we did legal. Retroactively. The way our Premier does things".
But I'm not corrupt, like Ford et al. are.
So, yeah, lawfully, I guess.
@TinaYazdani I am a regular ol' citizen from Waterloo Region. And I ABSOLUTELY care that you are trying to hide your corruption by changing the laws that allowed people to hold you accountable! @FordNation

@guyfelicella@Strippin I think it's hopelessness. Why should GenZ hunker down & save money? For most people, it's next to impossible to get into the property market. They see the rich getting richer while they continue to struggle. So, yeah, f*** it. Eat a $28 lunch and enjoy it!
@fordnation@fordnation I hope you're paying attention to the ratios on your posts lately. Despite the millions spent on advertising, Ontarians aren't buying your "protecting Ontario" BS anymore.

Here's @fordnation's AG, using people w/ disabilities as props in his photo op. We know his government doesn't give a s*** about them. 33% of single PWD in ON live in poverty. And 20 000 disabled kids can't attend school full time b/c his government won't properly fund education.
It was great to connect with @EmpowerSimcoe & learn more about their work to strengthen communities.
From breaking down barriers to supporting employment, Community Living Ontario works alongside 125 local agencies to provide supports for people with disabilities.

@douglasdowney@EmpowerSimcoe@BrianSaunderson This is disgusting. A photo-op w/ disabled Ontarians. People the @fordnation government keeps in legislated poverty. Disabled people are NOT your props. They are a highly marginalized group, relying on food banks & going w/out necessary medical care because they can't afford it!
@Kitkat_1216 Ugh. My uterus turned feral a couple of years ago. My skin is completely different - I'm all of a sudden reactive to everything. And the itchy inner ear thing is real and drives me bonkers.
@AlanJ_Robinson@guyfelicella And we have the data showing that focusing resources on upstream programs, including preventive healthcare, has a positive ROI. Further, healthier people take fewer days off work & are less likely to need disability leave. 🤷♀️ (2/2)
@AlanJ_Robinson@guyfelicella I would argue that comprehensive healthcare, including counseling, physiotherapy, etc., SAVES money in the long term. What do you think costs less: once weekly therapy sessions OR me in an ER resulting in a 30 day psych admission? (1/2)
