◾️1975: The U.S. halted aid to Kurdish rebels after an Iran-Iraq border deal. This sudden abandonment left the Kurds exposed to a brutal Iraqi military crackdown.

◾️1991: Washington encouraged a Kurdish uprising but failed to provide immediate military backup. Saddam Hussein’s forces crushed the revolt, causing a massive, deadly refugee crisis.

◾️2017: Iraqi Kurds voted for independence, and Washington stood by as Baghdad launched a military offensive to retake Kirkuk.

◾️2026; US decides to end military support for Iraqi kurds in Iraqi kurdistan to please the central government in Baghdad and Turkey as it will weaken the peshmerga.
