Extraordinary news of the capture of Nicolas Maduro and his wife by U.S. forces. Venezuelaโs fate hangs in the balance.
In 2014 I had a rare interview with Maduro in Caracas. Even then he made clear he had little time for the principles of a free and fair democracy.
It is unethical for a director of a national agency such as NACA to engage openly in partisan politics. Such a role demands neutrality and service to all Nigerians, regardless of political affiliation.
When a public official publicly declares loyalty to a political party, as in the recent case where the NACA Director tweeted and I quote:
โIโve seen a few comments suggesting I wasnโt active during the APC campaigns ๐ โจTruth is, this account was only created last year, but I was and continue to be involved right from my ward to LGA and state levels.โจMy dedication to our great party runs deep; itโs both family legacy and personal conviction.โ
It raises serious ethical concerns. This kind of statement risks undermining public trust, fostering perceptions of bias in policy or programme implementation, and eroding confidence in the neutrality of government institutions.
For national agencies that depend on broad cooperation and credibility, visible partisanship by their leadership threatens institutional integrity and weakens faith in Nigeriaโs public service as a whole.
