My body needs it—the hot baths, the care, the soft water, the perfume, the warmth. I take on the colors of the flowers, the bloom, the delicacy. It becomes me.
@KCDavisSays Follow this advice from my mother to this day:
“When in doubt about what to do, and it’s not a life or death decision, do the next best thing. That might be washing a load of clothes or taking a nap.”
The nap part really stuck. It’s my go-to “preamble” to problem-solving. 😂😂
@SketchesbyBoze “Go Ask Alice” changed me in my teens, “On The Road” in my 20’s, & “The Fifth Sacred Thing” in my 30’s. I’ll get back to you for what book will change me in my 40’s!
“If you have a deep scar, that is a door, if you have an old, old story, that is a door. If you love the sky and the water so much that you almost cannot bear it, that is a door. If you yearn for a deeper life, a full life, a sane life, that is a door.”
— Clarissa Pinkola Estés
When people are hurting, our first instinct is to change their feelings. What often helps them more is validating their feelings.
Sharing your perspective is less comforting than showing you understand their perspective.
Emotions need to be recognized before they're regulated.
Wisdom doesn’t come from experience. It comes from reflecting on experience.
Between ages 25 and 75, the correlation between age and wisdom is zero.
Gaining insight and perspective is not about the number of years you've lived. It's about the number of lessons you've learned.
bell hooks: "We have to constantly critique imperialist white supremacist patriarchal culture because it is normalized by mass media and rendered unproblematic.”
We are all here on this planet, as tourists, as it were. None of us can live here forever. The longest we might live is a hundred years. So while we are here we should try to have a good heart and to make something positive and useful of our lives.
"Never forget that justice is what love looks like in public." #CornelWest#QuoteOfTheDay
Thanks to @KellyDiels for sharing these wise words today during her Copywriting for Culture Makers office hours 💖
This quote by Arundhati Roy lives rent-free in my head: “There's really no such thing as the 'voiceless'. There are only the deliberately silenced, or the preferably unheard.”
When you get the message, hang up the phone. For psychedelic drugs are simply instruments, like microscopes, telescopes, and telephones. The biologist does not sit with eye permanently glued to the microscope; he goes away and works on what he has seen.” #AlanWatts 2/2
“The psychedelic experience is only a glimpse of genuine mystical insight, but a glimpse which can be matured and deepened by the various ways of meditation in which drugs are no longer necessary or useful." 1/
