NEW: Alberta is replacing its driver’s licences and provincial ID cards with a redesigned three-in-one card beginning July 2, 2026.

The updated cards can carry a person’s Personal Health Number on the back, ending the long-standing reliance on paper health cards, and will display a Canadian citizenship marker for eligible residents. Albertans must bring their existing health card to add the PHN and show proof of legal status for the citizenship designation, though neither is mandatory.

The new design replaces the dinosaur fossil on Alberta IDs since 2018 with an oil pumpjack, the provincial wild rose, and the words “Alberta Strong and Free” on the back. The card has 54 security features, and the province says linking health numbers to photo ID will reduce fraud. Card fees are unchanged.

Rates of syphilis in Ontario women age 15 to 39 ballooned from 2 per 100,000 women in 2014 to 54 per 100,000 women in 2023.
Rates of congenital syphilis, which occurs when mothers transmit the infection to a fetus during pregnancy or delivery, grew from 0.3 per 100,000 live births to 14.5 per 100,000 live births..
US seeing bigger increases..
The US CDC reported 81 syphilis cases per 100,000 girls and women ages 15 to 44 in 2024.
In the same year, there were more than 3,900 cases of congenital syphilis, or 110 cases per 100,000 live births.."

This STD (sexually transmitted disease) level should not be considered a STD (standard).

As you may already know well, "young patients who experienced a second confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection during the omicron period were more than twice as likely to receive a clinician-documented diagnosis of post-acute sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC) as those in the same calendar period after a first infection..
[In this cohort study of >465,000 patients younger than 21 years,] the incidence of clinician-documented PASC was roughly 1,884 cases per million children after a second infection, compared with about 904 cases per million after a first infection..
Beyond formal PASC diagnoses, children and adolescents who experienced reinfection had an elevated risk of a wide range of symptoms and conditions previously associated with long COVID.
These outcomes spanned multiple organ systems, including:
- cardiovascular complications such as myocarditis, arrhythmias, heart disease and chest pain;
- neurologic and cognitive effects such as headaches, cognitive impairment, postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) and other forms of dysautonomia;
- kidney injury;
- thrombotic events; and
- more common symptom clusters including fatigue, abdominal pain and musculoskeletal pain.
Myocarditis risk was more than three times higher after a second infection, and the risk of thrombotic events more than doubled..
These findings directly contradict the common assumption that because acute omicron illness is usually mild in children, and reinfection is clinically inconsequential.."
