@ont_rose You have to do what's best for you, your health, peace of mind and your future. If a leave of absence is an option that's worth considering. Personally, when I quit, I did it for the above and have found freedom and fulfillment teaching/tutoring outside the system of education.

#6 should be #2. Reading is fundamental and makes it so much easier to make individual academic progress and build relationships. It's daunting to have a class of HS students whose reading levels range from elementary to college. How does this happen? Yet it does.

Students aren't the only ones who need to learn the proper way to send an email. Some parents need a 101. Personally, I don't respond to foolery. I'd follow up with a phone call or a request for a face to face. Tone and word choice is everything. (image credit unknown)

When I changed careers to teach, it was because of Mrs. Weinstein, the embodiment of reach,one teach one. I often wonder about her, if she is well and if she would be proud of me. #ps332 #madeinbrooklyn

Mrs. Weinstein was my 6th grade teacher. She taught my uncles and my mother. She thought I would be great. I still have a handwritten letter she gave my mother many years later when I was older and 'out in dem streets' reminding me of my greatness.

@classdisrupti0n Really, there is no easy answer because at the end of the day there is no race, ethnicity or culture that is monolithic; it's faulty reasoning to assume so. Humanity is the only shared experience.

@classdisrupti0n You can only be true to yourself but in that be sure that it doesn't infringe on someone else's truth. Perception is reality and there isn't a book or encounter that can fully teach that. Be well, be wise and remember DeBlasio and Cuomo suck🙏

@tracyrenee70 This also happens with my adult ESL students, so I had to tell them they HAD to tell me if something is not right. I finally delegated a student to assist me in such matters, but they've become more vocal.
