Bike helmets? Please. Gravity was our only teacher, and pavement our stern mentor.
Non-smoking households? Didn’t matter. Every living room had an ashtray ready for Uncle Paul and his cloud of Marlboro wisdom.
Phone rings? You answered. No caller ID, no second thoughts. Could be a friend, could be a serial killer. Exciting times.
Coughing like a coal miner? Here, have a shot of rum. Doctor Mom prescribed it.
Wine at dinner? A cheeky sip from Dad’s glass was called building the palate.
Sunscreen? That’s adorable. We marinated in baby oil and faced the sun like warriors.
Seatbelts? Optional. You were either holding on for dear life or building character.
Playdates? Nah, we roamed the streets like stray dogs and came back when the streetlights flickered.
Lost? Google Maps was called "guessing" and "hope."
Got hurt? Rub some dirt on it. Maybe cry in private, but definitely walk it off.
We survived it all—rusty playgrounds, lead paint, and parents who only knew two modes: "Come back when it’s dark" and "You’ll be fine."

And now? We watch kids wear knee pads to walk on grass.
