Kenya’s leather industry has the potential to be a leading manufacturing sector, supplying both local and export markets. To achieve this, we must ensure that no hides and skins go to waste and that they reach manufacturers in high quality.
This morning, I visited Alpharama Limited in Athi River, where I engaged with suppliers, manufacturers, and industry stakeholders on key challenges, including raw hide exports, iron branding of livestock, low prices, and poor flaying all of which affect the supply of quality materials.
We are committed to strengthening policies that enhance local value addition, improve flaying techniques, and support stakeholders for purposes of wealth and employment creation.
