Evening viewing recommendation? Before it leaves @criterionchannl, watch William Richert's WINTER KILLS (1979). https://t.co/AXGpF6g9mi
Among the myriad conspiracy thrillers that proliferated in the '70s, it stands out for its audacious, tonally bonkers blending of paranoia and black-comic satire as well as for its eye-popping all-star cast led by Jeff Bridges—all of which has elevated it to cult status decades after it was barely released and nearly forgotten.
The far right came to London today to start a riot. It was a rally organised by fascist #TommyRobinson to build a far right street movement. And no surprise it turned violent.
We’ve opposed them today in our thousands but we need much more on our side
#StandUpToRacism
🚨Stephen Lennon is marching again in London this weekend. He insists he isn’t a racist, says it over and over, but the facts tell a different story. Here are five reasons why “Tommy Robinson” is a racist.
Seeing a great deal of what Boris Johnson has suggested in my timeline, the idea that Kirk represented mainstream opinion/common sense.
His murder is appalling. But this is nonsense.
Some of his views
-Profoundly conservative on gay rights. Didn’t believe in gay marriage. Said being gay was an “error” and compared to drug addiction.
- didn’t believe in abortion in almost any circumstances.
-called for a ban on all trans gender affirming care.
-he spread falsehoods about voter fraud, Covid and other conspiracy theories.
-suggested he opposed birth control and had very traditional views on women and how they should live their lives.
-claimed the Great Replacement Theory was UK government policy.
None of this could ever justify any violence. It is a matter of fact that his views were nowhere near mainstream. He clearly relished debate and was very influential. But in some cases, in many cases, his views were extreme.
