When will @GavinWilliamson and @BorisJohnson protect children? It is wrong to harm children by forcing them to get Long Covid. There must be effective safety measures in schools.

So even a v. conservative estimate is that by the end of July, tens of thousands more young people will be living with ongoing fatigue or memory issues.
Please stop saying that infections that don't result in hospitalisations are fine.don't matter. They do. 3/4
@Charlie070809@SafeEdForAll_UK Schools are so conditioned into putting attendance at number 1 spot that they haven’t even worked out how bad letters and emails like that are going to age - I reckon they’ll even be admissible as evidence in court cases. It’s complete madness.
Another day, another 48 kids hospitalised in England with Covid.
Imagine the fear, for those 48 kids and for those 48 families. Having been hospitalised with Covid myself, I can tell you, you wonder if you'll see your loved ones again. It is profoundly frightening.
I don't understand how we became a country where children dying of a preventable disease that we have vaccines against became ok. Where is the moral compass of govt, and JCVI who delayed this for so long. I'm shocked and outraged. Every day.
COVID-related myocarditis can be severe and tragically even fatal (unlike vaccine-related myocarditis which is typically rare and mild and hasn't cause any fatalities so far). Children do get seriously ill with COVID- here's a really heartbreaking story.

@DrRanj@trishgreenhalgh If you think management hasn’t been great why lend your name and public support to DfE? Look at the absences now! Even more kids are absent plus avoidably sick (& don’t forget those not on in absence data who’ve already de-reg’d). Dreadful treatment of children.
We were appalled as the number of kids missing school for covid related reasons rose steeply over the summer term.
What was done over the summer term to prevent this happening again?
Precisely nothing. We went backwards.
The number of kids missing school continues to increase.
Yesterday our year 5 cohort sent an 11th child home with Covid-19. We officially have an 'outbreak'. Everyone else stayed at school.
Yesterday my double-vaccinated neighbour died from Covid-19.
Yesterday, in my pocket of the country, policy and reality were worlds apart.
If an asthmatic catches a cold, it can aggravate their asthma for weeks afterwards. If they catch covid while it is aggravated it is bad news. Already short of breath, having to deal with covid attacking the lungs. And no booster planned for millions of asthmatics for no reason.
Wee guy I work with, only 17, unvaccinated, brother is in the house covid positive. Because he is under 18 he’s at work, very busy retail store, how many people is he coming into contact with. Thankfully masks on most, but this policy is 100% crackers 🤦🏻♂️🤷🏽
10-14yo *unvaccinated* children have the highest infection rates among ALL age groups in England. A predictable outcome given context of v.high cases + no mandatory protections. The entire summer was WASTED by not vaxxing teenagers and not putting in more mitigations in schools
There are lots of things about the pandemic that have been hard to predict.
The impact of unmitigated spread on children’s education was not one of them.
@nadhimzahawi Please give remote learning to those who request it. Thousands are without school education on unauthorised absence or have had to de-register.
Education being inaccessible due to medical conditions is discriminatory.
Make schools safer too.
Welcome to Texas!! No masks. No distancing. Low vax rate. Zero transparency & no dashboards. Ppl still say that it doesn’t impact the kids. Although our death count is exponentially growing and the Gov says we are doing great. ER/ICUs are full. Teachers dying. 😠🤯😠
It's 'inevitable' we'll import new variants,
It's 'inevitable' many more people will lose loved ones
It's 'inevitable' children will get infected
It's NOT inevitable.
It's only inevitable if you don't even bother putting in the most basic public health measures in a pandemic.
@educationgovuk The removal of all safety measures is breach of 2010
Equalities Act as it makes it impossible for children who are clinically vulnerable or from families who are (and are likely disabled) to attend school safely. Your school guidelines also likely in breach of Health & Safety.
@Archipet @GYamey Yes, and now it’s the government that are the bad news. How many think it’s ok to not protect children and actively harm them is astonishing.

@educationgovuk Appalling. 9% of kids are home with a risky illness that they likely caught in schools, and you think that is some sort of triumph?!
As a teacher when I open the registers I see kids reported as home with covid. The only difference now is that their classmates are oblivious.
Visited a NHS hospital earlier.
At main entrance, they asked me to take off my brand new FFP3 mask and put on one of their surgical masks instead.
Really, you want me to switch to using a mask that increases the risk of me getting covid during this visit?
