How much does the NBA change over in 5 years?????
None of the 30 NBA teams have more than 4 players left from the 2021-22 rosters
Only 12 teams have more than ONE player left. And only six coaches from 2021-22 too (Carlisle, Spoelstra, Finch, Daigneault, Kerr, Lue)

My observations tonight:
- Hartenstein played the first ~3 minutes and the Thunder didn’t score. They subbed in Caruso, and from then on Hartenstein only played when Kornet played.
- Kornet was -9 in 9 minutes. He just looked worse than normal. This may be a tough series for him, but he can be better than that. I look forward to a bounce back game from him.
- Hartenstein plus Chet only played 53 minutes combined in a 58 minute game. They played 3 minutes together, which means they went small for 8 minutes while Wemby played. Interesting that they preferred to go small vs throw Hartenstein out there against Wemby.
- Personally, I’d keep with the defensive strategy to have Wemby play off of Caruso. I don’t think he can go 8-14 four more times in this series, whereas the way that defense bothers Shai looks repeatable.
- Shai got too many good looks out of ATOs late in regulation. I think the Spurs went zone in OT, but I think they could have won in regulation if they made that adjustment earlier.
- Jalen Williams scared the s*** out of me tonight. He’s the only Thunder who made me feel that way. The Spurs are gonna struggle containing him; especially with all the focus on SGA.
- Caruso was absolutely incredible on defense. Just wow. Bravo.
- the refs called exactly the game the Spurs need: didn’t reward histrionics, and call the Thunder for at least some of their extracurricular activities. I very much doubt the Spurs will get that whistle every game, but if we can get it three more times it will help our chances.
- Caruso, SGA, and Jalen were the only Thunder in double figures!
- SGA played 51 minutes, Chet played 41, and Jalen played 37. Next was Mitchell at 34.
- the Spurs by comparison played Devin 51, Wemby and Castle 49, Dylan 47, and Julian 44. Major rest advantage Thunder. The Spurs really needed that one; Game two might be a Thunder blowout.
- Carter Bryant was awesome in his 14 minutes tonight. Guarded SGA remarkably well for a rookie in the WCF.
- Seven steals for Harper, breaking Kawhi’s team record. Pretty good company. Also had 24/11/6, along with a few rookie mistakes. But he played really well overall.
- Castle with 17/6/11, but 11 turnovers. Pretty good, but he’s gotta be better at protecting the ball (and I think he will be). Fox’s return will help take some playmaking pressure off of him.
- Julian and Devin played well, especially on defense, and they hit just enough shots. Devin’s block on Chet in double OT with the Spurs up 4 was pretty epic.
- Wemby with 41 points, 24 rebounds (9 on offense!), 3 assists, a steal, and three blocks. Holy moly what a stat line.
- I did not register the significance of Wemby’s OT logo 3 as it happened. Winning felt like a long shot to me at that point, so my brain didn’t fully appreciate what I was watching.
- Wemby’s offensive rebounds were an anomaly. The Spurs normally prioritize having him get back on defense and let the guards crash. That seemed like a clear strategic change for the Thunder. But I guess with the Thunder guarding him with little guys, that makes sense.
- the other strategic change: the Spurs walked the ball up the whole game. They typically push make or miss, so tonight was jarring. I wonder if they just think the Thunder are better in transition than the Spurs, or if they just felt that confident in their ability to throttle OKC in the half court, or if they were just adjusting for having a thinner rotation with Fox out. I’ll be curious to see if they approach every game that way.
- What a game. How the heck am I supposed to sleep after that?
- Go Spurs Go!
