See you next year, @ABCTAutism! Theme for Seattle 2023 is "Cultivating Joy through CBT." I love this theme - how can we support autistic people in pursuit of wellness? #ASDD#ABCTSIG
🧚♂️ I met a personal hero last night✨💖✨🌈
Dr. Charles Silverstein organized a presentation to the American Psychiatric Association back in 1973 that led to the removal of "homosexuality" as psychiatric diagnosis, and told @ABCTNOW to stop doing conversion therapy in 1972.
Great turnout to our @ABCTAutism#SIG meeting this morning! Let's keep this momentum going into the spring. More info on Journal Club soon! #ASDD#ABCTSIG
Great talks about engagement with #autistic stakeholders across many interventions, but I especially liked this conclusions slide by Dr. Brenna Maddox #ABCT2022
Congrats to Duke Psychiatry's Dr. Angela Tunno, who was recently named Blue Devil of the Week! Whether she’s working w/young patients or helping community-level systems serve trauma survivors w/@ccfhnc, Dr. Tunno works to help kids & families find healing. https://t.co/YMh0Qq1GMY
Learned so much today while moderating this panel for @ABCTAutism on ABA therapy. Grateful to the panelists sharing their vulnerability, time, and energy-
@PatrickDAutist, @AmyGravino, @APabloJuarez, @AmySFLutz, and twitter-less Katie Walton, PhD and Joy Johnson MEd, MS, BCBA
We had another amazing trainee presentation on behavioral activation in autistic adults with anxiety/depression! Great work, Gabrielle Guninn& Ellen Wilkinson from Vanessa Bal's lab at Rutgers! @ABCTAutism
I'm still processing the compelling ABA panel from @ABCTAutism PreCon. Thank you panelists for your thoughtfulness, vulnerability, time, & emotional labor. We learned so much! @Hannah_Morton9@AmyGravino @PatrickDAutist @AmySFLutz @APabloJuarez Joy Johnson & Katie Walton
Powerful presentation by Maire Diemer (UMissouri) about lack of research on autistic Black girls/women. Looking forward to reading the 2021 review by @templelovelace that Maire mentioned. @ABCTAutism#ASDD#ASDDSIG#ASDDSIGPreCon
We’re so excited to see everyone at our @ABCTNOW#ASDD SIG virtual pre-conference THIS FRIDAY from 12-4pm EST with our meet-the-experts coffee hour at 11am. Please DM us if you’d like to register for either or both of these events!
It’s taken me awhile, too long, but I’ve gotten to a point where I’ve mostly eradicated “crazy” and “insane” from my vocabulary (unless I am talking about my mental health) and I wince whenever I hear or read them ( much as I long have regarding “lame”)
REMINDER: The #ASDD@ABCTNOW SIG pre-conference is on **Friday November 4th**! This year we will be hosting a panel on ethical/best-practice concerns on the use of ABA in autism, as this has been the subject of many recent conversations within the SIG and in the community. (1/4)
