Like I said in the OP, we dialed into the process and trusted the results would fall into place. Here’s how they performed as a sub-group.
FPS: 61.08%
AC: 72.43%
BB: 10.4%
K: 34%
Like I said, the result falls into place:
1.68 ERA
Without question, that’s a rotation you can rely on.
Couldn’t be more proud of this group for the buy-in and trust 📈📈📈
Introducing the most underrated High School pitching staff in the state of Michigan:
The Bloomfield Hills Blackhawks (@Blackhawksbase2)
As the regular season concludes and we shift our focus to the state playoffs, it’s time to share the philosophy implemented and the result of doing so.
The Process: Simply that - The process. When I took the Pitching Coach job for the ‘25 season, I set out to implement Key Performance Indicators (KPI) that reflected strictly things within our control. This included:
• First Pitch Strike%
• Advantage Count% (0-2, 1-2, or AB over)
• BB%
As I said many times throughout the year, take care of the first two, the third takes care of itself.
Where did we set the bar and how did we perform?
FPS% - 60% (59.6%)
AC% - 65% (69.2%)
BB% - 12.5% (12.92%)
Feel it’s important to note that I did not mention ERA at any point this season. If we took care of the controllables, that number would take care of itself - It sure did.
The result, as an entire staff, of dialing in the focus on controlling what we can:
IP: 197
BAA: .194
ERA: 2.84
K%: 27.5%
I’d like to take the time to dive into our starting rotation, as they’ve set the table for the team and continuously put us in positions to win baseball games.
A Thread - featuring @CooneySawyer, @hunterfarbman, & @TylerMarx16
🧵🧵🧵
Tyler Marx (@TylerMarx16) is what most what consider a “crafty-lefty”, BUT his arsenal along with the ability command the ball makes him so much more.
The growth in overall confidence has allowed him to really take that next step both in his development and performance. Much like Sawyer, Marx has really taken to understanding count-leverage, the intent with each pitch, and the subsequent execution. He’s learned to roll with misses and allowing himself time to make the adjustment. The combination of all the above makes him an absolute steal for @KVCC_Baseball
Together, we made adjustments to 2 of the 3 shapes he offers AND we added a fourth pitch. Keeping the cues simple, giving him chances to have success with these pitches relative to the count, playing with usage rates, Marx has really blossomed over these past few weeks.
During that stretch:
3 Starts
20 Innings Pitched
35% K-Rate
2.6% BB-Rate
0.35 ERA
Marx has quietly become one of the better performers in metro-Detroit and was recently rewarded with an OAA All-Star nomination.
