Personally, I would rather the Vikings go the route of Kirk Cousins if it came down to this. Kirk and KOC have experience with eachother, and probably less pressure on JJM with Kirk than Carr.
An intriguing QB option to watch this offseason, as Derek Carr could unretire for the right situation and coaching staff, per The Insiders.

Pretty tough to replace Phillips who moved with KOC, and just came off a great offensive couple of years. There’s no doubt they wanted to let him go, but in no way could the Vikings dump Phillips.
While his history isn’t great, I still don’t think it’s been horrid. Some forget, the first year for Kwesi drafting was all of Spielman scouts and information. After that, he has improved slightly. I’m fine with bringing him back one more year with KOC as HC. Let them bomb together.
Myles Price… he’s a big reason. He’s a talent with the ball in his hands. Confident. Made mistakes, but the Vikings did find a solid return man, which made the difference.
I asked Andrew DePaola yesterday about ST coordinator Matt Daniels. Here's what he said:
“I think Matt did a great job. With all the young guys that had to play, who was up and who was down, just moving guys around different positions on punt, kickoff, return, I can’t say enough about what he did this year with those guys. I think we had a solid group of rookies…but what Matt Daniels did with that group was really good.”
I agree CB is probably the biggest need, but the #Vikings, if McCarthy stays as our starting QB, need to keep adding talent to this offense. Obviously the biggest if is if Flores can be retained.
In the first 45 minutes after John Harbaugh was fired this afternoon, his agent Bryan Harlan said he received calls from seven NFL teams expressing interest in his client.
There currently are seven NFL head coach openings, including Baltimore’s.
I don’t disagree about Burrow, but in theory he’s the same type of QB that fits. I really believe the Lamar situation is just with his athletic ability you are always looking to give him space. Shotgun allows that. Any “system” you have is always based on the players you have around you.
This really doesn’t make sense from the fit point. Lamar creates and is a Quick read QB. It’s basically what KOC wants. He loves getting the ball out, but creates after about the second read to extend plays. It’s what made Darnold work so well in this offense. But I do agree, he probably cost way too much for the Vikings.
“Yeah, I’m just going to go where I get paid the most”
Don’t blame him a single bit. The WR3 option anywhere is tough. Hard to get paid from the team your on for your value, when you can see WR2 money elsewhere.
@northsidewolvez Sounds like an expensive room. I’m fine with adding one more vet, but probably makes sense with going with another rookie or just keeping Scott on the roster.
Play action involves getting the ball out of your hands and being able to create. Play action opens up the deep ball.
The reason Darnold was so successful was getting the ball out of his hands creating a higher completion percentage and opening up the offense for big plays.
Every fan gave props to Darnold for the ability to create when the open receiver wasn’t there early. His struggles came around when holding onto the ball.
Every offense wherever you are has best success when play action is working. I’m not sure what you’re saying there? It’s also when Lamar is at his best.
New | Joe Burrow set the stage for a critical offseason in Cincinnati.
The problems are clear. The pressure and frustration are undeniable.
While there will be plenty of it, there’s just not much room for talk around Paycor Stadium anymore.

Reminder that Mike McDaniel since taking over the Dolphins has the worst 3rd & 1 and 4th & 1 conversion percentage in the NFL at 44%. Median is 61%. The next worst team is 51%.
When you are the worst (by far) for an entire 4 year stretch you cannot blame that on personnel.
Basically that’s my point, there isn’t any other real starting caliber QB’s available in free agency this year. Cousins is probably cut, he will probably be the closest option this offseason to “starting caliber”.
Trade wise, Anthony Richardson is always another name to float around.
