I understood, as the child of one of the legends of Free Jazz, why and how he felt that way.

We had special codes for Western Union (which became just "WU" as in Tell them to WU me, MoneyGram... But his FAVORITE thing was to tell me to rent a car because "we have to pick up a bag"... or if he was down South and I had to do it alone, I'd take my private "gypsy cab" I had a Dominican cat with a lincoln continental that he'd tricked out with a red leather interior with Betty Boop in leather on the seats and headrests. The Betty Boop Mobile.

I'd go to meet some rando or sometimes a cat I kinda knew from other music biz, usually a whiteman, who was standing akwardly on a corner somewhere as DOOM had instructed him to do - and I'd drive up, roll down the tinted Betty Boop Mobile window, and ask for the bag. If DOOM was with me sometimes he'd wait in a nearby location and watch as he mostly did NOT want a chat with Son, whomever it was, if it wasn't someone who did repeat biz or that he liked somewhat or wanted to talk to.

The best bag I picked up had 12K in cash in it. In my former life, that would be a VERY small amount of cash, so it did not move me in the least... I was just doing my job per DOOM's instructions. Then if he was gone I'd WU it to where he was at.

And I agree. If you can gain the leverage as an artist, get paid in a brown bag. If you must sign an agreement, do it on a paper plate or a napkin.
