Olivia: Being Senior Schools convenor was like auditor a thankless job. But seeing the students be proud of themselves and grow was great. I want to give opportunities to others who want to get involved, and allow them to become more experienced.
Katie: I am motivated to work very hard when I care about it. I am extremely passionate about the L&H, I always work hardest for the things i care about most and right now that is the L&H.
Katie: Although there is value in working with small businesses it is not a viable way to expect sponsorship. For most small businesses it is not realistic to give away free things, instead discounts could work. Corporate is the best way to achieve the viability of the society.
Olivia: Small businesses sponsoring, looks like freshers week sponsorship- not getting large sums of money. There are many different types of benefits you can get outside of monetary gain.
Audience Q: It is very different going to large companies and asking for big sums of money. What does the society get from advertising small businesses?
Olivia: We have a lot of value, through bringing awareness to these companies via advertising at high profile events. We have a constant following that come to our events, small sponsors are important.
Olivia: I would remove the Finlay Chair from exec. It is so important to have someone fighting in that corner constantly, it will prevent conflict of interest within the exec. It is important to have someone chosen for this role from an interview.
Audience Q: Katie you wish to keep the highest ranking WGM as Finlay Chair, why do you wish to keep this in place as the WGM will already be very busy.
Olivia: We all offer a large amount of experience and ideas. My exec is currently spread over different departments which allows us to provide guidance to future members.
Katie: I wanted my exec to achieve a balance, it was important to choose people who would work well together. Mark will be such a good balance to me and a 'voice of reason'.
Katie: Freshers Rep is probably the most fun role, being a kind of 'vibes officer'. They have been great over the past year and it is really important to choose freshers who are from different degrees and have different personalities.
Olivia: Stephane put in place a Fresher's Rep mentorship role (somewhat secretly). But there are benefits to seeing different roles before you commit to it for a whole year. Also want this to be fun and give them the opportunity to choose their roles they wish to do.
