One of the craziest parts of the strike for me was this really cool action where we shut down a literal defense contractor drone conference at UCSD for like 3 hours and then UAW leadership came out of nowhere and was like: “I think we are being too aggressive…we need to leave”

This strike has made it abundantly clear that academia is truly just a site of exploitation and violence. Ive decided to leave my Theoretical Chem PhD program at UCB. In the spring I’ll have my masters, Id rather be back working 35 hrs as a barista than this shit.

One thing I hope UC workers internalize is that your strike is actually much stronger than Columbia’s ever was. We were a minority strike. I was doubtful withholding grades would work for that reason. I still don’t know how big a role it played, but here is what I do know:
