Today, Stanford graduate workers have announced our intent to unionize! Follow along and join us in solidarity as we fight to make Stanford a fair and safe workplace by giving graduate workers a real voice in our wellbeing. Stanford works because WE do! #StanfordGWU#SGWU
Love how our executive board unilaterally decided to secretly, without any rank-and-file member present, bargain with UC over top-ups, dependent healthcare, MEFs, membership lists, appointment notifications, and percentages! Such democracy and membership participation!
One of the craziest parts of the strike for me was this really cool action where we shut down a literal defense contractor drone conference at UCSD for like 3 hours and then UAW leadership came out of nowhere and was like: “I think we are being too aggressive…we need to leave”
This strike has made it abundantly clear that academia is truly just a site of exploitation and violence. Ive decided to leave my Theoretical Chem PhD program at UCB. In the spring I’ll have my masters, Id rather be back working 35 hrs as a barista than this shit.

Congratulations to Nadine Fishel on her forthcoming promotion. Closed some contracts deeply favorable to the UC. Didn’t even have to work hard to do it. Love to see a girlboss win.
@uaw2865 I know people at @ucsc and across UC who will now be forced to leave their PhDs because this contract is so insufficient. You all wanted to feel like you were "making history" more than you wanted to care about our most vulnerable rank and file.
All the hotties have assembled on this last day go #VoteNo !! glad to have our UCSF homies join us💗🔥 thank you Trinh Dang here at UCI for this group pic🥹

I would kill for 23% of Columbia faculty to have withheld grades in solidarity, holy cow. Y’all are moving the Overton window and you don’t even know it.
(Not to distract from the main point: faculty, do better! Do not tempt me to rant about this, my career has suffered enough)
Thank you Yiwen for sharing about the importance of FULL NRST remission!!💌 We need a contract that protects international workers and makes graduate school more accessible to international students by eliminating financial barriers😤❤️🔥‼️

‼️CONCESSION ALERT‼️
The no-strikes article in the tentative agreement means we could get fired for refusing to cross a picket line. This is NOT in the previous ASE contract.
Vote NO on this awful TA to keep fighting for SOLIDARITY with our comrades in other unions.
UCSF students spoke w/ 2 Labor Lawyers & asked Q’s—on bargaining, mediation, withholding labor while making academic progress, impasse, how to assess the strength of our strike & on our fears!

One thing I hope UC workers internalize is that your strike is actually much stronger than Columbia’s ever was. We were a minority strike. I was doubtful withholding grades would work for that reason. I still don’t know how big a role it played, but here is what I do know:
