Pleasure to join @BBCBreakfast to talk about the chaos happening in British universities at the moment.
“I’d rather have a degree than @UCEA1’s thoughts and wishes” 👇🏼
UPDATE: How do I prove to employers that I have completed 4 years at university?
I have to send them this letter. I wonder how this compares against applicants who have received degrees 🤔
@EdinburghUni’s unwillingness to solve this is crushing our prospects - it’s a scandal.
Feedback from exam boards across UoN has shown the full impact of the Contingency Regulations, which were adopted by Senate (39+,37-) without much detail about their implementation. Academic standards have been undermined to counter the MAB. A thread 🧵1/13
First scabbed module marks coming in and they are absolutely inconsistent as expected. Students: map your marks against former assessments, check your feedback against criteria and complain that there are irregularities in the assessment process - ie not marked by module tutor.
I HAVE FEEDBACK ON MY 8 THOUSAND WORD DISSERTATION! Oh, wait. No, I have 100 words of vague waffle. Whoever marked this didn't approve of the title that my supervisor told me not to change. This is an insult to me and my supervisor and I am in shock
In a communication to senior members today in the School of English, Faculty AHC, @UniversityLeeds individual colleagues were identified as UCU members.
Testing out some placards for the march and demo!

Really pleased to see pledges continuing to roll in for our salary sharing scheme! If you're a member of @SheffieldUni staff not expecting deductions and haven't yet signed up to the pledge, do it now! https://t.co/kO1QFT6puM
🚨 STOP FIRE AND REHIRE REDUNDANCIES AT UCL 🚨
@UCL and @BidvestNoonan have told outsourced security guards that they will all be fired-and-rehired on worse conditions, with 40 guards made redundant.

Staff @QUBPsych protesting at being silenced, by being refused entry to the exam board that they co-constitute @ucuatqub Apparently differences of opinion constitutes ‘conflict of interest’ and will not be tolerated. Very disappointing, @QUBelfast
The incompetence from sector leaders is staggering. This would be like in the recent Birmingham bus strike if instead of resolving the dispute the bosses had randomly turned up to bus stops & encouraged people waiting to imagine being on a bus.
As a former Chair of the Geography Sub-board of Examiners @RHULGeography I have serious concerns with the proposed emergency regulations and was happy to sign alongside my colleagues and our finalists.
Many dissertations are also allegedly being marked by volunteers rather than supervisors.
Simply unfair for final-year students who have worked so hard on their dissertations.

Good lord. So I find out that after 4 years, my graduation grade will be *provisional* because all my work won’t be marked - via @TheTab, NOT via any official uni comms.
I wonder when @EdinburghUni were planning to tell us. The incompetency and disrespect is astonishing. 🤯
Staff and students in the Department of Geography have published an open letter to @RHULPrincipal objecting to the Emergency Regulations and calling for a public statement on the need for a negotiated settlement. #UCURising

It is now time for students to be fully alerted to who is standing in the way of their graduating: callously, arrogantly, and incompetently. It is UCEA .
Claims it will happen in September should not be taken seriously. That also cannot happen without negotiation.
