That was a shock. This is just confirmation.

We now know that 2016 wasn't a fluke or an aberration, that this is what the majority wants: whiteness, patriarchy, nationalism, hatred, nihilism.

Whether I want to spend the rest of my life in such a place is something my mind isn't prepared to consider.

Right now, I just know that I'm seeing the nation with my eyes fully open and there is no mistaking what so many people I Ioved and once respected, actually value.

As heartbreaking as that is, I now know where they stand, and I know it's nowhere I want to be.

The influences behind the two parties today are totally different, so your argument is a false comparison. You are assuming the political situation is relatively normal when it truly is not normal.

Trump's agenda and narrative have caused many wealthy Republicans to flee the party and join the Democrats because their beloved party has been turned into a cult of personality with Trump at the center.

He has corrupted the party so thoroughly that traditional Republicans like Mitt Romney, Liz Cheney, Jeff Flake, Adam Kinzinger, Judge Luttig, and more have said their beloved party is no more and they will need to start a new conservative party under another name in order to win back lost trust and respect.

So, the left has become heavily weighted with the disillusioned right joining their ranks. One is still a valid, identifiable political party, and the other is a mere cult, worshipping their political prophet at all cost.

There is no comparison between the two. There is no equivalence between the two. The traditional Republican Party is experiencing its death rattle, gasping for air, but finding only a toxic ether filled with bigotry, hate, intolerance, disinformation, character denigration, contrarianism, and lies. It will not last.
