Court Stops INEC from Recognising ADC Congresses Backed by David Mark
A Federal High Court in Abuja has restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising or participating in any state congresses organised by the caretaker leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The ruling was delivered by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik on Wednesday.
The court held that the tenure of the party’s state working committees and executive members remains valid pending the conduct of properly constituted congresses and a national convention.
Justice Abdulmalik ruled that the caretaker committee led by former Senate President, David Mark, lacks the constitutional authority to organise state congresses or appoint committees for that purpose.
According to the court, the responsibility for conducting such congresses lies with the party’s state executive committees, not the national leadership.
The judge also restrained the Mark-led leadership from interfering with the functions and tenure of elected state executives.
The suit was filed by aggrieved members of the party, who argued that the caretaker leadership acted outside its constitutional powers.
Delivering judgment, the court emphasised that political parties must strictly adhere to their constitutions and that courts have the authority to intervene where constitutional provisions are breached.

WARRI SOUTH-WEST: Ekpemupolo Pushes Bill to Teach Ijaw and Itsekiri in Schools
Rt. Hon. Ekpemupolo Idukedoumene Samuel, Leader of the Legislative Arm of Warri South-West Local Government Area (LGA), has presented a landmark bill to integrate Ijaw and Itsekiri languages into the curriculum of all primary schools, both public and private across the LGA.
The initiative is aimed at preserving indigenous languages, promoting cultural identity, and securing the educational future of children in the area.
In accordance with legislative procedure, Rt. Hon. Samuel temporarily stepped down as Presiding Officer, allowing the Deputy Leader, Rt. Hon. Erewa Charles, to oversee the proceedings while the bill was formally introduced. The gesture was praised by his colleagues as a demonstration of respect for due process and legislative ethics.
Under the proposed law, schools located in Ijaw communities will teach the Ijaw language, while schools in Itsekiri communities will teach Itsekiri. This ensures that children grow up fluent not only in English but also in their ancestral languages, preserving the culture, proverbs, and traditions of the community from an early age.
Speaking on the significance of the bill, Rt. Hon. Samuel highlighted the urgent need to protect indigenous languages, noting that many children today are unable to speak or understand their ancestral tongue. He said the legislation is designed to revive pride in local languages, strengthen cultural identity, and foster peaceful coexistence between the Ijaw and Itsekiri communities.
The bill is also expected to create employment opportunities for qualified language teachers and educational resource personnel, providing both cultural and economic benefits to local communities. Rt. Hon. Samuel described the legislation as “more than a bill; it is a legacy of unity, culture, empowerment, and inclusivity” for Warri South-West.
The proposed law is now under consideration by the House, and it is widely regarded as a significant step toward safeguarding the cultural heritage and educational development of the area’s younger generation.

“I have respect for the military, and I’ll continue to respect them. I know what the institution stands for. I’m not a fool; I went to school. So anyone trying to suggest I have problems with them is wrong. I have no problem with the military, and I never will. Why would I have issues with the government? But this is a private matter." - Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike

King Dakolo Calls on Military to Rethink Approach to Oil Theft, Insecurity in Niger Delta
His Royal Majesty, King Bubaraye Dakolo, Agada IV, Ibenanaowei of Ekpetiama Kingdom and Chairman of the Bayelsa State Traditional Rulers Council, has urged the Nigerian military to redefine its strategy in tackling oil theft and insecurity in the Niger Delta.
The monarch made the remarks while receiving the Air Officer Commanding, Mobility Command, Air Vice Marshal M.N. Onyebashi, during a courtesy visit to the Council’s Secretariat.
King Dakolo described the prolonged presence of the Joint Task Force (JTF) in the region as an operation that has outlived its original purpose. He questioned its long-term effectiveness since 1998, likening military security efforts to “mopping a wet floor while leaving the leaking roof untouched.”
While commending the Nigerian Air Force for its professionalism and discipline, King Dakolo highlighted issues of national security, accountability, and the plight of oil-producing communities. He stressed that the real masterminds of oil theft are not the youths in the creeks, but influential individuals controlling the illicit trade behind the scenes. He lamented that despite repeated discoveries of illegal pipelines and large-scale oil diversion points, no major arrests or prosecutions have been made of the financiers.
King Dakolo urged the military to act with courage and integrity, standing firmly on the side of justice and the Constitution, even under political pressure. He emphasized that lasting peace in the region cannot be achieved through force alone but through inclusion, fairness, and development.
Air Vice Marshal Onyebashi said the visit was aimed at strengthening civil–military relations and seeking royal guidance for the Command’s ongoing operations. He reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s campaign against oil theft, illegal bunkering, and other criminal activities in the Niger Delta.
The Air Officer Commanding also praised King Dakolo for his consistent advocacy for justice and good governance, describing him as a “voice of wisdom and stability” in the region. A highlight of the visit was the monarch’s presentation of his published works to the Air Force delegation, exploring the complexities of governance, oil politics, and the quest for justice in Nigeria.
