Je suis pacifiste. Proudly Gen X. Also, I’m a lawyer. El origen no importa, hay que ser un mensch. Quo vadis, democracy? ☯️💯🌍🗽

[UzbekistanIstDasGehirn @UGehirn]

Every day I’m going to remind myself: I have agency. My voice is NOT too small to make a difference.
I choose humanity, I choose resistance. Won’t give energy to doom/despair. Humans on the good side of history have ALWAYS used their humor, creativity, resistance & persistence.

Article by Caitlin Flanagan in The Atlantic re. her relationship to Twitter—how Twitter “wormed its way into her brain.” 😶

I…can…relate. 🤨😐😑 https://t.co/LBZ79BIAwI

[UzbekistanIstDasGehirn @UGehirn]

@lajkainorbit @ItsMattsLaw Great law school joke. Thank you. Some comic relief was needed. 😆

And yet, nevertheless sad—poor Mrs. Palagraf indeed!! (Reminds me a bit of @yourewrongabout and its analysis of hot McDonalds coffee case - also a sad/bizarre case with a real person behind it).

[UzbekistanIstDasGehirn @UGehirn]

I’m *ashamed* that I, too, fell for that false story. So, reminder to self and others:
— there are MANY DIFFERENT skin conditions
— monkeypox itself has a wide range of presentations
— beware of fakes
— beware of stigmatization (especially in this hyper-connected world)
😓😓😓

[Meaghan Kall has moved to Bluesky @kallmemeg]

So. The Spanish man snapped on train that went viral did NOT have Monkeypox.

He has neurofibromatosis, which causes tumors and is not contagious.

He never spoke to @arturohenriques

Do you see now? The gutter journos are after likes, not facts.

In closing, here some suggestions (“ACTION STEPS”):
1.) call all of your medical providers;
2.) call your local health dept; and/or
3.) call “your” schools, community centers, congregations.
=> ASK them what their #monkeypox protocols are!

Goal: RAISE AWARENESS
to combat #MPXV

[UzbekistanIstDasGehirn @UGehirn]

If I’m wrong & MPX isn’t a big deal—come back & throw it in my 🧑🏻call me an alarmist. I’ll be sooo happy then. Seriously!

In the meantime, it’s “virus study time” AGAIN. 📚😣

And yeah, SARS-2 wasn’t polite enough to go away before this new plague came to stalk us — all of us.

[UzbekistanIstDasGehirn @UGehirn]

Those who read my Tweets (and I’m grateful to my friends & debaters here 😌) know or can sense that I’m NOT “in it for the clicks.” Always quality over quantity. So I’m NOT (!!!) trying to gross you out or burden/stress you. ❤️

But my instinct is to take MPX seriously. 🙏🏼🩺😷

[UzbekistanIstDasGehirn @UGehirn]

I want to be clear I’m one of those people who would rather know than not know. I was the type who took HIV tests in the late 80s & early 90s (and used condoms). I’m really cranky & tired after 2.5 years of COVID pandemic. 🤬 But…I can’t ignore monkeypox. I have my son ❤️❤️❤️

[UzbekistanIstDasGehirn @UGehirn]

This is literally just statistics - no images! Reuters makes it clear: this thing has spread like 🔥to every corner of the 🌏. That’s unprecedented.
Numbers are ↗️ quickly yet the average person is still confused (😕🙃)about the basics. Let’s read up?🧐

[UzbekistanIstDasGehirn @UGehirn]

Dr. Heather Koehler says that genetic mutations are NOT behind monkeypox spread – she’s a pox virologist and scholar. (Most likely also Gen X, based on her name.)
TRIGGER WARNING: one (1) image of a monkeypox rash on palm of a hand towards end of article. https://t.co/CmmAmH8CTm

[UzbekistanIstDasGehirn @UGehirn]

This entire thread 👇🏽👇🏽👇🏽

Dr. Bamford is not a monkeypox virologist (as far as I can tell, those are a “rare breed”?!)
BUT as a lay person I thought this virologist’s thread on pox viruses gives a really good background.

TRIGGER WARNING: graphic images.
(Can’t help that 😐)

[Connor G. G. Bamford, Ph.D @cggbamford]

Given the recent interest in monkeypox, here's a few things that people should know about poxviruses from a virologist point of view (1/14)

[UzbekistanIstDasGehirn @UGehirn]

@Lmaxt @MaaloufMD I agree it’s NOT about disparaging a doc who’s a mom for being w/baby (= career + family). Instead, it’s that entitlement Max talks about: their needs, and ONLY theirs, got considered in shaping that frustrated reaction. Failure to regulate emotions in that moment => that’s it!

[UzbekistanIstDasGehirn @UGehirn]

@Lmaxt @MaaloufMD I agree w/this! As an attorney, whenever I get sick & unable to appear in court => angry clients. Why? Some simply consider *their* perspective ONLY + think of lawyer (or doctor?) as “godlike” (always there, always available). I say “I don’t get sick ON PURPOSE.” Oh. Lightbulb!

[UzbekistanIstDasGehirn @UGehirn]

@LakotaMan1 There is no other conclusion to reach! Add to that the many broken treaties. And genocide. And diseases that killed many Natives. And: the erasure of surviving American Indians from U.S. public awareness. So here we are, today, and none of this has been fully accounted for…yet.

[UzbekistanIstDasGehirn @UGehirn]

@lindsayboyce85 @lisa_iannattone I feel this is the *key* message to drive home, Lindsay! I’m not a virologist/epidemiologist/scientist. But HEALTH MESSAGING re. MPX needs to emphasize: it’s the CONTACT, not the sex per se that’s the driver here! Exactly how contact transmits? ➡️CAN include sex, not limited to…

[UzbekistanIstDasGehirn @UGehirn]

@dianaberrent MPX is an ugly little devil because, as far as I can tell, much harder to avoid than COVID! MPXV may be less infectious BUT makes up for it: infectious LONGER & in *way more* ways: fomites, droplets, skin, airborne, sex. A lot of what we did in Spring 2020 is actually needed NOW!

[UzbekistanIstDasGehirn @UGehirn]

@dianaberrent And from what I’m reading: YES, it’s airborne, keeping in mind that the difference between droplet transmission and airborne transmission is essentially just the size of the droplet, which then influences its range / behavior.

[UzbekistanIstDasGehirn @UGehirn]

@dianaberrent Not a virologist, not an epidemiologist. That said: this virus is now 1.) SPREADING QUICKLY; 2.) showing up in PLACES IT’S NEVER BEEN BEFORE; 3.) seems to have ADDED ROUTES OF TRANSMISSION; 4.) it’s not to be trifled with. Anyone who thinks it’ll now just “fizzle out” is asleep?

[UzbekistanIstDasGehirn @UGehirn]

@CathyTRicardo @mygenderisblack Anyone who’s ever been both thin + fat (especially more than once) can attest to this. When you’re a “normal” weight, your medical issues are seen & heard. When you’re fat, everything -just about everything!!!- you see the doctor about is narrated to you as caused by your weight.

[UzbekistanIstDasGehirn @UGehirn]

@ahLeonora The public health messaging has been ineffective & confusing, in my view, at least here in the U.S. I do think the messaging was “if you’re a gay man/man who has sex w/men, then -and only then-concern yourself with MPX!” Also, “it won’t kill you, it’s just a skin/cosmetic issue.”

[UzbekistanIstDasGehirn @UGehirn]

@ahLeonora And then I said, “No, ANYONE can —and is— getting it! And there are MANY routes of transmission! And you mean small pox, NOT chicken pox—and only SOME protection. And my child has no such protection. And he can’t get vaccinated because under 18 AND they’re not freely available.”
