Itโs officially back-to-campus season, and our partner Hillels are kicking off the semester!
From BBQs to ice cream socials at Hillel of Staten Island, @cbhillel, @SBUHillel, and @BingHillel, students are reconnecting with old friends, meeting new ones, and settling back into their homes away from home.
Wishing all @HillelIntl students an incredible year! ๐ #MissionMonday
We commend Speaker Menin for her leadership and swift action in encouraging the Met not to honor John Galliano, and appreciate all those who called for the Met Gala to change direction.
As antisemitism continues to dangerously proliferate in our city, this morning's outcome affirms a foundational tenet: Antisemitism should never be honored.
After my numerous and lengthy meetings and conversations with The Met, I am pleased that they have agreed to not honor John Galliano.
From the beginning, I have told them that I strongly disagreed with this decision, and at this rising time of antisemitism, it had served as a gut punch to the Jewish community. This is the correct decision, as the harm and pain this was causing was simply unacceptable.
Museums such as The Met must be held to a high standard of inclusiveness and tolerance, and I am pleased that they have listened to the concerns I have raised and reacted with the right decision.
As the daughter of a Holocaust survivor, and as the first Jewish speaker of the New York City Council, this decision was personal to me, and the Jewish community and I felt a strong obligation to speak out.
#ShabbatShalom and enjoy the last Shabbat before Labor Day weekend! โ๏ธ
We hope you soak up these final days of summer as much as the kids at our partner @ShorefrontY's Brighton Beach are! ๐๐
Antisemitism is hard enough for adults to understand. But how do we talk about it to our children - without letting it define their Jewish identity?
That question was at the heart of a recent gathering by UJA's Sephardic Division, who heard from Hindy Poupko, a UJA Senior Vice President, and Dr. Rachel Harari, Head of The Stanley I. Chera SAM School.
They discussed how we can confront antisemitism while raising the next generation to embrace their Jewish identity with confidence.
Thank you to everyone who joined us.
This Rosh Hashanah, bring a taste of Israel to your holiday table. ๐ฏ๐ฎ๐ฑ
At a time when Israeli products are being pulled from shelves, buying a jar of our honey from central Israel is a small, sweet act of solidarity. Every purchase supports UJAโs critical work in Israel and here at home.

They just returned home to Israel with amazing memories, new friendships, and a profound sense of community.

Weโre so grateful to clergy members from across New York who have come together in an interfaith show of solidarity with Central Synagogue and the greater Jewish community following last Friday nightโs attack.
Together, theyโve sent a clear message: hate has no place in any house of worship โ and everyone deserves to gather in prayer without fear.
As we head into Shabbat, we hold fast to a simple hope: that every New Yorker can gather in worship, and practice their faith, safely and freely. Wishing everyone a Shabbat Shalom, and a weekend filled with peace and blessings.
What makes camp so special? ๐๏ธ๐ As camp comes to a close, we asked campers and counselors from our partners at @CampKehilla, @UsdanArts, and @midislandyjcc Day Camp to share what they love most about camp. From friendships to favorite traditions and activities, hear it straight from them!

After surviving the Nova Festival massacre, Lior Auvgang faced the difficult journey of rebuilding his life and rediscovering his purpose.
Our Young Leaders recently welcomed Lior to UJA to hear his powerful story of survival, loss, and resilience. With the support of our partner SafeHeart, he found a path toward healing โ and today, he shares his story to help others find hope, too. ๐
For Erica Goldman, Israeli dance has been a lifelong part of her Jewish identity โ and now, sheโs sharing that passion with a new generation.
This summer, she taught Israeli dancing to campers at UJA-funded
Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds, including those at @NewCountryDay, @MarksJCH Summer Day Camp, and @SIJCCCamp.
Through music, movement, and plenty of smiles, campers discovered a joyful new way to experience Jewish culture โ together. ๐
