The World Bank has approved $137m of budget support for Malawi - a month after its currency lost nearly half its value against the US dollar.
Malawi is battling chronic foreign-currency shortages that have led to a lack of fuel and medicines.

The World Bank has announced that for the first time since 2017, it will start providing direct budget support to Malawi.
The bank says the financial assistance is for Malawi to enhance its fiscal sustainability and transparency, stimulate private sector growth among others.
