How Native Woodlands Protect UK Waterways 💧
Tree roots anchor soil, filter river pollutants, and slow heavy rainfall to reduce flood risk. Help us build resilient UK landscapes! 🌲

Newly planted trees, in 10 electric fence protected clusters along two long, in-field #hedgerows, are doing well in one of our #agroforestry projects in East Sussex. A local community group visited the site last week to learn about mob grazing in the #silvopastoral system.
A recent check of the performance of this year's #treeplanting in one of our Oxfordshire projects is very encouraging. The small clusters of wet #woodland tree species are all doing well, in part thanks to recent weather conditions. We're hopeful of their robust establishment.
We were very encouraged recently to find that a potential #chalkstream on the boundary of one of our Oxfordshire #treeplanting project sites was both flowing and in fairly good condition. We've started planning work to restore #biodiversity of the stream and #riparian habitat.
Local volunteers worked hard in one of our Oxfordshire projects on Sunday, #treeplanting wet areas of the new #woodland with small clusters of wet woodland species, such as common alder, birch and goat willow. The species should thrive and begin to influence the local #ecology.
A great group of volunteers helped complete #treeplanting last week in one of our East Sussex #agroforestry projects. Hedgerows were enhanced and 10 clusters of native trees were established, sheltering cattle and increasing #biodiversity, carbon stores, and rain infiltration.
The Forestry Commission recently published this handy guide on securing the #naturalfloodmanagement benefits of well designed and managed woodlands. Restoring healthy ecosystems supports #biodiversity, provides multiple #ecosystemservices, and increases beauty in our world.
Excited to begin collaborating with an Oxfordshire-based charity to create and manage #naturalhabitats on land it owns . The mix of project activities includes #treeplanting and management, pollinator-friendly meadow creation, improvement of an SSSI woodland, pond restoration.
Delighted to begin a new #agroforestry partnership in East Sussex. We'll be #treeplanting this season in a mob-grazed field to provide shelter for cattle from rain, wind and heat, to increase #biodiversity and to improve rain infiltration.
Delighted to be working in partnership with an Oxfordshire-based landowner to create an extensive area of native broadleaf woodland and associated habitats, including ponds and pollinator-friendly, species rich grassland.

We recently re-visited the '10 golden rules' for tree planting, and are reminded that they apply just as well in UK as elsewhere. This short read is full of useful information, alongside the 'rules'.
