Today, Ukraine marks 35 years since the restoration of our Independence 🇺🇦

For 35 years, every day has been a day of independence in its own way. Today, we are fighting an existential war — and proving once again that no empire, no dictator, and no other state has the right to decide Ukraine’s future for us.

Independence is the right to be ourselves, to choose our own path, our friends and allies, and to build the country we want to live in. Our task is to make this freedom protected, irreversible, and secure — so that our children have a better future.

And today, we know for sure who our true friends are. We are deeply grateful to all our partners who have stood with Ukraine, strengthened our ability to defend ourselves, and helped us preserve the freedom we fought so hard to regain. Your support is part of Ukraine’s strength.

We fight for Ukraine’s independence — and for the right of every sovereign nation to determine its own future and live free from aggression.

We inherited the fight for independence from generations before us. Our task is to make sure the next generation inherits independence itself.

Ao longo de diferentes períodos históricos, desde os tempos da Rus até ao Hetmanato Cossaco e à República Popular da Ucrânia, existiram neste território diversas formas de Estado e de governação.

A proclamação da independência em 1991 não marcou o início da história do Estado ucraniano, mas foi o culminar de uma história secular e de uma longa luta pela recuperação de um Estado soberano.

A horrible and sleepless night in Kyiv. This was one of the most brutal Russian attacks to date, with ballistic missiles raining down on our capital one after another.

At least 12 people were killed in Kyiv, and one more in the Kyiv region. A school, a children’s hospital, and residential buildings were severely damaged. Russia also attacked Chernihiv and Odesa regions.

With such horrific war crimes Putin wants to demonstrate complete impunity. Each Russian ballistic missile is an act of barbarism. And each interceptor delivered to Ukraine is an act of humanity and saved human lives.

We know partners who can deliver these interceptors, and we urge them once again to act without delay. Every delay is measured in human lives.

We are informing all states and international organizations of the consequences of this attack, and we urge them to take immediate, concrete steps to intensify pressure on Russia and bolster support for Ukraine.

I urge Ukrainians abroad to take action.

We are calling on the Ukrainian World Congress, as well as all Ukrainian organizations and communities in key capitals and around the world, to raise their voices now.

We call for three critical measures to protect human lives:

- Deliver air defense: Transfer or sell additional interceptors and air defense systems to Ukraine.

- Tighten sanctions: Increase sanctions pressure to cripple Russia’s ability to manufacture these instruments of terror.

- Build defense capabilities: Partner with Ukraine to develop anti-ballistic capabilities.
