The Loudest Heroes vs The Quietest Savior
1. Theon Vs Mance.
Left: Theon - "I saved Sansa" - says it every 5 minutes for 3 seasons. To Yara, to Jon, to Sansa herself. Like he wants a medal. Bro, you tortured her for a year first, then pushed her husband out a window. That's not a rescue, that's damage control.
Right: That man on the right is Benjen Stark / Coldhands. Or Mance Rayder's army scout, depending on who you think - but the point is he saved 100,000 lives beyond the Wall and nobody ever knew his name.
He led wildlings away from White Walkers. He saved Jon at the Fist of the First Men. He saved Bran and Meera. He died alone in the snow killing wights so Bran could live.
No songs. No "remember me." He just did it and froze to death.
That's GOT in one image.
Theon needed forgiveness, so he turned one decent act into his whole identity.
Benjen just saved people because Starks don't leave people behind. No speech.
One screams "Look what I did." The other whispers "Go, I'll hold them."
2. Dany vs Jaime.
Dany "saved 400,000 slaves" - bells ringing, crowds chanting Mhysa, Unsullied kneeling, every camera on her. She made sure EVERYONE knew. She wanted the world to see.
Jaime "Kingslayer" - saved 500,000 people in King's Landing from wildfire and no one ever knew. He killed Aerys while Aerys was screaming "BURN THEM ALL." Jaime stopped the same thing Dany did in S8. But because he did it by stabbing a King in the back, they called him Oathbreaker for 17 years.
Dany freed slaves and never let you forget it.
Jaime saved a city and let you hate him for it.
That's the difference. Daenerys needed to be SEEN as good. Jaime did a good thing and accepted being seen as evil.
And in the end? Dany became what Jaime stopped. She became Aerys. With bells ringing.
Jaime died trying to save the same city he was hated for saving the first time.
Loudest heroes want redemption, while the quietest saviors just do the job.
Employee: "I'll be out for 3 days. Flu."
HR: "Three days requires a medical certificate."
Employee: "I'll get one when I can stand up."
HR: "It's mandatory."
Say what you want about 2007's Rise of the Silver Surfer, but Johnny Storm absorbing all the team's powers to fight a cosmic powered Doctor Doom was peak cinema for the era. 👑
Last July, we hired a 20-year-old boy for his very first full-time job.
He had no previous work experience, but he was friendly, eager to learn, and surprisingly quick to catch on. Before long, he was doing a pretty good job.
However, there was one unusual habit that left everyone scratching their heads.
Every afternoon, he would clock out for lunch at 12:30 p.m. and somehow wouldn’t return until 2:30 p.m.
At first, nobody questioned him. We assumed he might have personal errands to handle or perhaps needed to go home for something. We decided to let it slide.
But after about a week, his supervisor finally called him aside.
“Why are you taking two-hour lunch breaks?”
He looked genuinely confused.
“I’m not.”
His supervisor raised an eyebrow.
“You leave at 12:30 and come back at 2:30. How is that not two hours?”
I was folding the last of the kids’ laundry on the bed when Ryan walked in and shut the door behind him.
“We need to talk about the credit card.”
I didn’t look up. “What about it?”
“You spent four hundred dollars at that boutique last week. We said we were cutting back.”
“It was for the kids’ school pictures and a dress for your sister’s wedding. You told me we could still go.”
“I said we could go,” he said, sitting on the edge of the bed. “Not that you needed something brand new when you already have dresses in the closet. We’re still paying off the car. Every time I try to get us a little ahead, something else comes up.”
Treating humans as a plague to be minimized is an extinction philosophy with better marketing. Expanding consciousness to Mars and beyond via AI and robotics is the expansionist alternative. Everything else is managed decline.
One of my co-workers has a habit that constantly frustrates our manager. Every afternoon, around 3:50 PM, he starts finishing up his tasks. By 4 PM sharp, his computer is switched off, his bag is in his hand, and he’s walking out of the building.
He never leaves at 3:59, and he never stays until 4:01.
The interesting part? He’s equally punctual in the morning. His shift officially begins at 8 AM, but he consistently arrives around 7:50 AM.
Eventually, our manager had enough and called him into his office.
Manager: “If you want to grow in this company, you need to stop behaving like someone who simply works for a paycheck. Start thinking like someone who owns the business.”
My co-worker: “What exactly do you mean by that?”
Manager: “I mean you should care about the company's success. Don't just complete your assigned tasks and watch the clock. Sometimes, you need to go the extra mile and stay until the job is finished.”
My co-worker listened quietly before asking a question that caught our manager off guard.
My co-worker: “If you expect me to think like an owner, would you be willing to give me a 50% stake in the company?”
I told my best friend her fiancé was cheating, knowing it would destroy her wedding. What I didn't tell her was that I was the woman he cheated with.
Six months ago, Ethan started calling me whenever he and Olivia argued. He said I understood him in ways she never could.
One night, we crossed a line we could never uncross.
I hated myself for it, but I convinced myself it was a mistake that would never happen again.
Then Olivia asked me to be her maid of honor.
I almost confessed everything.
Instead, I stood beside her while she tried on wedding dresses, listening to her describe the future she wanted with a man who had already betrayed her
That wasn't Targaryen tradition. That was Viserys being a creep and an abuser.
Targaryens married brother to sister, yes. They believed in keeping the bloodline pure. That's their weird incest thing.
But they never had a tradition of watching your sister bathe. That's not "Valyrian custom." That's Viserys being obsessed with controlling the one thing he owned.
Think about who Viserys was in S1:
- He was 22, broke, exiled, no army, no dragon
- His ONLY currency was Dany's body. Her silver hair, her beauty.
- He says it himself: "I would let all 40,000 Dothraki and their horses f*ck you if it gets me the throne."
So he inspects her like a horse trader. Touches her, watches her, measures her. Not as a brother. As a owner checking his product before sale.
That's why Dany flinches every time he touches her in S1. That's grooming. That's abuse.
And the show did that on purpose to show you why she has ZERO empathy when he dies. When Drogo pours gold on him, she says "He was no dragon. Fire cannot kill a dragon."
Many relationships don’t end because love has disappeared; they end because two people stop communicating and refuse to forgive each other. The same relationship that once felt like a dream can slowly become unbearable when partners are nonchalant.
