STATEMENT OF APPRECIATION TO PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU, GCFR, ON THE FLAG-OFF OF THE GOMBE–BIU SUPERHIGHWAY DUALIZATION PROJECT
On behalf myself and the good people of my constituency, I wish to express my profound gratitude and appreciation to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the historic flag-off of the N1.245 trillion Gombe–Biu Superhighway Dualization Project, a landmark infrastructure intervention that will transform the economic, social, and security landscape of the Northeast region.
This monumental project stands as a clear demonstration of President Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to national development, infrastructure renewal, and the realization of the Renewed Hope Agenda. For decades, the Gombe–Biu road remained a critical but neglected corridor despite its immense strategic importance to commerce, transportation, and regional integration.
The reconstruction and dualization of this vital highway will not only ease the movement of people and goods but will also stimulate economic activities, attract investments, enhance security, create employment opportunities, and strengthen connectivity across the Northeast and beyond. Future generations will undoubtedly remember this bold and visionary intervention as one of the defining infrastructure projects of our time.
I sincerely thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership, foresight, and dedication and all stakeholders whose commitment has contributed to the realization of this long-awaited project.

@SenatorAKyari calls for Stronger Support for Nigeria’s Rice Sector at West Africa Investment Roundtable
Nigeria’s Hon, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, @SenatorAKyari participated in the West Africa Rice Investment Roundtable held in Accra, Ghana, from 2–3 June 2026.
I participated in the West Africa Rice Investment Roundtable held in Accra, Ghana, from 2–3 June 2026, where African leaders, development partners, investors, and private sector stakeholders reviewed progress towards our collective goal of achieving rice self-sufficiency by 2035.
Africa currently consumes between 50–60 million tonnes of rice annually, while local production stands at just 23–25 million tonnes. As a result, the continent spends an estimated $5–6 billion every year on rice imports to bridge the gap.
During the roundtable, I emphasized the need for stronger support from development partners, particularly the World Bank and the African Development Bank, to accelerate investments in Nigeria’s rice sector. Increased support for irrigation, mechanization, improved seed systems, processing infrastructure, and access to finance will be critical to unlocking the full potential of our rice value chain.
Nigeria remains committed to working with regional partners to strengthen food security, reduce import dependence, create jobs, and drive sustainable agricultural growth across Africa.

Improving food security through higher crop outputs.
By Tahir Ibrahim Tahir. @TahirTalba
As we seek indigenous solutions to resolving our food crises of the previous 3 years, which has been on a steady decline, the National Agricultural Extension and Research Liaison Services (NAERLS) has established that higher outputs have been recorded in the production of major crops like rice, maize, sorghum, millet, cowpea, yam and cassava compared to the production of 2024. This is going by the 2025 performance survey instituted by the Agric extension service. This success is no doubt a result of the govts efforts in improving crop productivity by safeguarding smallholder farmers and their annual or bi-annual yields. The govt has provided farmers with atleast 1.9 million bags of fertilizer with an additional 12,000 litres of organic fertilizer distributed. The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has not only succeeded in the expansion of fertlizer distribution, but has established a National Reference Laboratory and upgraded the National Fertilizer Management Platform to improve quality control to curb the distribution of fake fertilizer. Nigeria's strides in improving the agricultural sector to foster food security has been quite tremendous.
In tackling food insecurity, a lot of energy was expended on the development of rural infrastructure by the agric ministry so as to further unlock the contributions of smallholder farmers who need the infrastructure to evacuate their crops from their farmlands. To facilitate this; not less than 170 kms of asphalt roads and 57 kms of earth road were constructed. The ministry also constructed about 300 solar powered boreholes with water treatment plants, 3,600 installed solar streetlights, and 69 rural housing and market facilities. This was immediately followed by the launch of the Renewed Hope Agricultural Mechanisation Programme where 2,000 tractors and other related agricultural equipments were deployed. The National Agricultural Growth Scheme -
- Pocket (NAGS - AP), was the flagship project of this administration in the agric sector where about 622,818 registered farmers were provided with subsidized inputs. This alone is responsible for 30% increase in crop production in participating states.
The Federal Ministry of Agric and Food Security within the same time, was also able to embark on numerous construction projects including; the construction of 10 large scale integrated processing plants across all of the 6 geo-political zones and also set up 7 composite flour milling factories. The Agric ministry also built two agribusiness incubation centres at Federal University Lokoja and Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike. The Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ), supported by the African Development Bank, also recorded notable early successes, including the profiling of 7,398 farmers, cultivation of 409 hectares under climate-resilient practices, and improved rice yields averaging five metric tons per hectare. Additionally, under the Nigerian Farmers Soil Health Scheme, pilot soil assessment laboratories were installed in four states, while farmers recorded up to 20 percent yield increases through improved soil testing and fertilizer recommendations.
The administration has been keen on incorporating youths into its agric agenda and true to its vision; the last three years have witnessed an improved attention on an emerging generation of young agripreneurs who have thrived well under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda for food security. The agric minister has put in place an initiative that will bridge innovation, technology and agribusiness.
At an engagement forum on Agric and Food Systems Transformation, HM @NGfmafs, @SenatorAKyari highlighted key achievements of the Ministry under @officialABAT: decline in prices of food, the NAGS-AP, prompt fertilizer distribution, training of farmers and deployment of tractors.
