With graduation just around the corner, we celebrated our SHSS graduates with catering from Olive Garden, captured their smiles in a photo booth and honored each one with a special Student Council cord.

Twelve students represented UMKC and showed off their research to lawmakers at Undergraduate Research Day at the Capitol. We’re especially proud of the four School of Humanities and Social Sciences students who took part: Emanuel Fabian, Yasmeen Hanon, Ruweyda Hassan and Theo Ratizer. Their hard work made a strong impression on legislators and stakeholders. Great job to all involved!

Beyond their internships, they’re passionate about creating change and making an impact. Associate Professor of art history Joseph Hartman, Ph.D. has been awarded one of two grants in the state of Missouri from @NEHgov. The funds will go to writing a book on hurricanes, disaster capitalism, art and architecture. Congratulations!

The UMKC School of Humanities and Social Sciences was awarded $4 million to preserve historic sites and organizations across Kansas City. The @MellonFdn grant will support the historical and preservation projects of 16 community organizations.

Steven Revare (M.A. ’07) is the 2025 School of Humanities and Social Sciences Alumni Award winner. He is the co-founder of Tom’s Town Distilling Company, a local distillery. Steve also supports education and the community through initiatives like the Writers for Readers Internships and the UMKC English Department. Congratulations, Steven!

The UMKC Gallery of Art is pleased to present "Neither Men nor Gods but Something Closer to the Former," an interdisciplinary & collaborative performance and exhibition by artist Sierra Faust and pianist Benjamin Havey.
