Alhamdulillaah we just completed our summer camp showcase and presentations. The little kids and the boys did a fantastic job. Allaahumma Baarik. They presented their research findings of Qawaaid Al Arbaa and the Muqaddimah of Ibn Zaid to an audience.

Whoever does not have the nisaab for a year can be classified as miskeen, even if he is paying his bills & maintaining his basic needs. Thats what some scholars mention as the difference between miskeen & faqeer, both are poor, yet the miskeen has enough income to meet his basic needs, without any significant savings. Consider that the "masaakeen" of Soorah al-Kahf owned a boat & held jobs at sea.

A brother asked me how to keep track of the nisaab* (minimum threshhold) for zakaat. "It keeps changing," he said.

I replied: No, actually the nisaab is set & it does not ever change. It remains 85 grams of gold & 595 grams of silver.

It is only the perceived value of gold & silver in your local currency which changes.

Essentially: How can we know what the nisaab is TODAY for our local currency then?

Take the "SPOT" price of a gram (not an ounce) of silver today in your currency & multiply it by 595. This is the lower & safer nisaab, which is better (as religious caution & care for the poor) than using the higher nisaab of gold.

*The "nisaab" is the minimum amount of saved wealth which makes zakaat an obligation. It is then required to be given to its rightful recipients (mentioned in Soorah at-Towbah, 9:60) once that amount or greater is held for one full (Hijri) year.

'Abdullaah ibn al-Mubaarak (d.181) reports with his chain back to al-Hasan al-Basree (d.110), that he said:

«إن المؤمن جمع إحسانا وشفقة، وإن المنافق جمع إساءة وأمنا»

"The faithful believer combines ihsaan (piety) with concern/worry (about deeds not being accepted), while the hypocrite combines wrongdoing with confidence (that his actions are accepted)."

سُئل الشيخ العلّامة محمد ابن عثيمين رحمه الله تعالى: ما معنى هذا الحديث (ومن مس الحصى فقد لغا ، ومن لغا فلا جمعة له)؟
الجواب معنى هذا الحديث أن الإنسان إذا كان يوم الجمعة والإمام يخطب فإنه لا يعبث ولا يتلهى عن الخطبة بشيء ومن العبث والتلهي عن الخطبة أن يمسح الحصى والمراد بالحصى الحصباء التي فرشت على مسجد النبي ﷺ ومعنى(لا جمعة له)أي أنه يُحرم أجر الجمعة.

Allah says (what means):

"Let them pardon and forgive. Do you not love that Allah should forgive you? And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." (24:22)

Tremendous benefit for worldly disagreements that happen between spouses & family:

Pardoning & forgiving is a path to Allah's Mercy & Forgiveness.

He is the One who decreed these disagreements to happen, so you could implement this verse & attain His Mercy. Its not random. Its rooted in divine wisdom. We need reminders like this in order to recognize this opportunity & seize it.

It is a door to Paradise opened up for you. So pardon & forgive one another, seeking the best of what is in the verse referred to. May Allah forgive us & grant us success.
