Gaza NGOs at the UN on the Freedom Flotilla and Europe’s “Empty Outrage”.
#VIDEO NEW YORK. At the @UNCANews press conference on #Gaza’s humanitarian emergency, senior humanitarian leaders also responded to a question from Italpress and La Voce di New York about the #FreedomFlotilla2026 and the attitude of European governments toward these initiatives. Participants included @SaveCEO_US Janti Soeripto, President and CEO of @SavetheChildren US, @abbymaxman, President and CEO of @OxfamAmerica, @JeremyKonyndyk, President of @RefugeesIntl, and Dr. Teresa Soldner, a trauma and intensive care surgeon recently returned from Al Shifa Hospital in Gaza. The NGO representatives acknowledged that the humanitarian impact of the #Flotilla is inevitably limited compared to the enormous needs inside Gaza. No activist boat, they explained, can realistically replace large-scale and sustained humanitarian access. At the same time, however, they defended the symbolic and political importance of these missions: keeping international attention focused on Gaza and preventing the crisis from disappearing from global consciousness as conditions continue to deteriorate. The speakers also criticized the ambivalent attitude of many European governments, accused of expressing outrage while failing to take concrete action to protect civilians and guarantee meaningful humanitarian access in Gaza.
