The reason Bernie Sanders isn't president is because Democratic Party leaders successfully catalyzed party voters to back Hillary in 2016, and then in 2020 he refused to make a strong enough case against Biden & the same Democratic leaders then catalyzed party voters to back Biden.
Perhaps the crowds at his rallies right now suggest more party voters will (finally) be more willing to support an anti-oligarchy candidate in the future. It's hard to predict. We will see.
There is no scenario where neoliberal Democrats control the Democratic Party and the party regains popularity to dominate electorally nationwide.
Progressive populism. That’s the only path for the Democrats.
It’s cowardly that after representing the oligarchs for 50 years in office, he calls out this threat to our nation with just days left in his presidency.
Meanwhile, the Democratic Party has consistently allowed corporate and dark money to go after candidates and elected officials who stand up to these oligarchs.
He enabled, benefited from, and emboldened the system that threatens us all, while he will ride off into the sunset and won't feel the harms of what's been built.
Our communities will, though.
Those who stood up and tried to fight back were met with opposition from the party and even him specifically.
