Concluded my visit to Indonesia this evening with a meeting with H.E. Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan and the Nat Economic Council (DEN) on Indonesia’s ambitious digital transformation agenda.

We focused in on Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), which is rapidly expanding to a national rollout.

With DPI and the right policy and governance frameworks in place, we exchanged good global practice on AI to extend public services, improve efficiency, and support inclusive growth.

Signed agreement with @UNDPIndonesia to partner w DEN and critical sectors on key aspects of this agenda.

Strategic discussion with H.E. @saktitrenggono @kkpgoid reaffirming 30 years of UNDP–KKP partnership 🇮🇩🌊

From protecting 30% of Indonesia’s waters to scaling seaweed, sustainable fisheries, and coastal livelihoods, the focus now is turning successful pilots to impact at scale.

Wrapping up my @UNDPasiapac visit to Indonesia with some reflections from Bukit Lawang in Northern Sumatra, a rainforest in the #GunungLeuser landscape, unique to the cohabitation of tigers, elephant, rhino and orangutan 🐅 🐘 🦏 🦧

A wealth of natural riches to be protected and expanded with jobs and economic growth. When getting the balance right, no contradiction here!

Did you know this is the last place on Earth where four endangered species - orangutans, elephants, tigers and rhinos - still coexist in the wild?

From the rainforests of Bukit Lawang, @KanniWignaraja shares glimpses on how Indonesia is moving beyond isolated conservation efforts toward inclusive, landscape-based and spatial-based approaches that benefit both people and nature... protecting biodiversity while strengthening local livelihoods.

Orangutans! What amazing rare creatures native only to the rain forests of Borneo and Sumatra...critically endangered today.

Efforts are underway w @theGEF @UNDP to ensure they stay with us - national authorities, local communities, intl partners are coming together to play their part. It needs more.

Thx to the amazing forest rangers and community leaders we met today in the rainforests of Bukit Lawang, in North Sumatra, and the 🦧 they protect, for showing us how 🙏🏼

Waste has great economic, social, tech and jobs value. If managed right.

In #Medan, North Sumatra, UNDP works with local government to learn and apply global practice to ensure local waste management turns the corner - from data systems, protections for waste pickers and changing behavior across the waste value chain - to put this #circulareconomy action.

And at TPA Terjun the change is evident and the commitment to clear this debris deck is here!

City governments are closest to people and their realities. They are first responders.

The Sumatran Elephant is a magical creature that is critically endangered today.

Not as gigantic as some of its' other Asian Elephant cousins, but as wise, playful and gentle when feeling safe.

The caring and protections provided by National Forest Authorities, community guardians and forest rangers in North Sumatra are helping. With @UNDP @UNDPIndonesia @theGEF support.

Hopefully more partners can come in to save and grow back their numbers !
