On the occasion of the #InternationalDayOfTheGirlChild , the United Network for Humanity Observatory underscores the importance of protecting girls’ rights and ensuring their access to #Education, healthcare, and protection from all forms of violence, exploitation, and discrimination, in accordance with the Convention on the Rights of the Child and relevant international obligations.
Girls living in conflict zones and humanitarian emergencies require particular attention, given the risks they may face, including displacement, disruption of education, early and forced marriage, gender-based violence, and deprivation of essential services. These risks threaten their physical and psychological well-being and restrict their opportunities for social participation and for building a safe and stable future.
The Observatory emphasises the responsibility of States and relevant actors to take effective measures to protect girls, ensure accountability for violations committed against them, and provide safe, accessible services that respond to their needs. Particular attention must be given to displaced and refugee girls, girls with disabilities, and those living in vulnerable humanitarian situations.
The Observatory calls for strengthened efforts to ensure safe and equitable access to education, improve reporting, protection, and response mechanisms for violence, expand healthcare and psychosocial support services, and meaningfully involve girls in decisions affecting their lives. It also calls for support to families and local communities in creating environments that respect girls’ dignity and rights.
The United Network for Humanity Observatory reaffirms its commitment to monitoring developments concerning the rights of children and girls and following their conditions based on available humanitarian and human rights data and sources. These efforts aim to highlight their needs, bring violations to light, and strengthen initiatives to ensure protection and access to justice and redress.
