NEW 🚨 | 1 in 5 workers in Britain are at risk of losing their right to strike.
The laws will mean that when workers legally vote to strike, they could be forced to attend work – and sacked if they don’t comply.
We are pleased to say that our emergency motion, “Justice for Palestine: Ceasefire now!” that we sent to National Young Members forum passed overwhelmingly 🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸We won’t stop campaigning until there is a Permanent Ceasefire & an end to the Israeli Occupation of Palestine!
Tasha Bednall, one of our branch officers spoke to Young Members Conference about the experiences of workers going on strike for the first time, specifically referencing the successful Ash Field Academy strikers, who have secured a win recently for their pay.
Huge thanks to @cmcanea for attending and speaking at our young members conference, it’s so great to see UNISON making the voices of young members heard across our movement and highlighting the valuable work that young members do 💜
On the train home from #UYMC23. It's been an amazing weekend hosted by a really great city. My personal highlight was the incredibly moving speech given by KESK representatives. It was also great to see our Greater London Region motion pass and receive a huge amount of support!
We are so proud that our motion "Young member focused training on strikes and ballots" passed at #UYMC23 and inspired a long session of speeches from delegates across the regions. This is a subject our forum members felt strongly about in discussions.
Being young today, is so much harder.
But I am constantly in awe of the resilience, creativity & dynamism of young workers today.
I’ve been honoured to meet so many young members and to help give them the prominence they deserve within UNISON.
#UYMC23
Our General Secretary, Christina McAnea, gave a fantastic speech this morning at #UYMC23. I'm really looking forward to the rest of the conference and continuing to discuss our campaigning priorities.
working to bring the issues our Young Members face onto the agenda. I would strongly encourage anybody thinking of getting involved in their Young Members Forum to do so, and join the exceptionally talented group of people I am lucky to work with! 3/

Young Workers Month is an opportunity to remind ourselves that we are the future of the Trade Union Movement. I'm passionate about ensuring that we are represented at such an important time, and I believe that we have a responsibility to be engaged in our union, 2/
