"well, i don't see why a rick wouldn't like you. you seem very nice! i -- i don't ever mean to be rude."
his voice trailed off anxiously. doofus didn't want the other to feel bad, but it was evident slick felt poorly of himself. doofus wanted to help mend those thoughts --
think they want to send me over to a rick class or something. but that won't happen."
a slight smile. he found everything ironic. how awful the system was to both mortys and the rare occasional rick.
mortys shouldn't be taking classes to be better for ricks. that's just awful. mortys should be allowed to be themselves. i'm so sorry you had to go through that awful school system.
( he frowned a bit and returned his gaze to morty )
i promise i -- i'm not like that. i --
you shouldn't have been placed with those ricks. most ricks don't deserve to have a morty. mortys aren't human shields like they think they are.
( doofus, for once, expressed anger outwardly. he was bitter towards those ricks. the ricks who cared of nothing but themselves )
how do you feel about the rick system and such? nothing you say will offend me because i'll agree with you. the ricks aren't all that good at taking mortys' happiness into consideration. it's all very upsetting.
( he had a very genuine, yet nervous smile on his face )
( he felt awful. who was he to make this teenager listen to the ramblings of an elder? this was about SLICK. conversation should not have been shifted to doofus )
hey hey. it's okay. i -- i think this is about you. i want to hear .. . how you feel instead. is that okay?
i was going to say that i wanted to have a friend or somebody to appreciate me and a person i can appreciate in turn if that -- that makes sense? i'd like a family too.
( his gaze shifted to the side. what else could he say? he felt bad. he was prepared to be made fun of. )
i'm not looking for a morty for my adventures or any in general. i would just like . .. to be . .
( the word d//ied on his lips, but he wanted to be appreciated. he wanted to feel cared about. he wanted a family, but that's something people laughed at him for )
. . . nothing.
o -- oh it's been going good i think! i'm not . .. i'm not really sure, but don't worry about me. this is about you.
( his tone expressed apprehension and nervousness. doofus didn't want the other to learn of the mockery the elder went through. it made him feel ashamed. )
it's your opinion and that's what matters, slick. nobody should get mad at you for stating what you think about this place. this place could be doing a lot better at times.
( even he had to admit the citadel wasn't as changed as it could have been )
still a lot of stuff wrong
oh! the citadel is very different, but that's not really a bad thing is it? maybe a morty pres. can keep this place from being . .. full of mean ricks.
( his voice trailed off, a perplexed look clouding his features before speaking again )
do you think it's any better?
you're right. it would be very natural and i'm m -- more than okay with it if you are, slick. i'm glad i get to talk to you either way.
( a small, open, and nervous smile turned the corners of his mouth upwards. he was attempting to be as open as possible. )
you doing okay?
( doofus glanced nervously at the now retreating teen. miami was halfway out the door and there was nothing doofus could do about it. once door clicked closed his gaze traveled back towards his knees, brows furrowing )
gosh. i hope h -- he's doing okay.
( miami, particularly nervous during the entirety of this interaction, leaned back in his chair, folding his arms against his chest. a barely perceptible nod. )
i -- i hope i don't come off as devious. that wouldn't be so good, would it?
( both hands lower onto his knees )
( doofus lifted his hands to wave them about in a gesture of nervousness. miami gasped and shot slick a rather annoyed look while going back to patting doofus on the shoulder. )
n -- no never! i promise never. i'm not like that, slick.
( he sounded very sad, tone wavering )
