The on-board compressor is sized to be efficient at higher pressure/lower volume. Even if it could run forever without overheating, it would be very slow to fill up tires. So the experience would be quite a lot worse than buying a compressor sized correctly for the application.

The on-board reservoir is ~10 liters and holds around 20bar (~300 psi). If you wanted to use that to fill a 35" tire (closer to 150 liters) from 10psi up to 50psi, you would need to fill and empty the on-board reservoir twice, per tire.
