Birmingham's Ranger Service Manager Steve Hinton, took a short break today from his "day job" to help us make the next Out and About with Park Rangers video (coming soon) We think he gives Brian Blessed competition here 👇 Can anyone shout "magnificent trees" louder than him?
Can you see why jelly ear is such a great name for this fungus? At times, its cup-shaped lobes really do bear an uncanny resemblance to the human ear! We found this example at our Deer's Leap Wood reserve.
Common throughout Britain, it can most readily be found on elder trees.
The beauty of working outdoors in some wonderful places. I got to share my lunchtime with this little fella. Only about 2” long from nose to end of tail. Let me get really close to film him/her. https://t.co/sI0heoipEp
Who knew that if you unleash a load of reception kids with chalk and food colouring, the woods will look like a party from 1994. I had flashbacks all day.

I highly recommend listening to the interview @flygirlNHM did on @BBCRadio4 Life Scientific about the beauty of flies. It was so interesting & opened my eyes to the importance of flies in our ecosystem. I'm now hooked on hoverflies & even trying to sympathise with mosquitoes 🦟
