Research to Commercialization| Week3| Day2
Week Three of the Research to Commercialisation (#R2C ) Programme continued on its second day with a session on due diligence for innovators and start-ups. The session examined how investors assess whether a venture is ready for funding, partnership, or market entry.
Participants examined the frameworks used by investors, development finance institutions, and strategic partners to assess investment opportunities. The discussions covered commercial risk management, legal compliance, investor vetting, and financial auditing fundamentals, while also addressing key considerations such as intellectual property ownership, governance structures, market validation, customer traction, and financial sustainability.
Building on these discussions, participants gained practical insights into establishing virtual data rooms, maintaining corporate records, preparing financial documentation, and identifying potential investment red flags. The session also explored startup-specific issues, including cap table management, founder alignment, unit economics, technology ownership, and investor engagement strategies, equipping participants with tools to strengthen the readiness of their ventures.
A key takeaway from the training was the importance of early preparation. Entrepreneurs were encouraged to maintain organized financial records, legal documents, and data rooms to demonstrate professionalism and improve their chances of securing funding and strategic partnerships.
