#SpecimenSpotlight | UPLB MNH houses many priceless specimens which showcase the exceptionally rich biodiversity of the Philippines. One example is a specimen of 𝘚𝘢𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘶𝘪𝘢 𝘴𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘴𝘪𝘧𝘭𝘰𝘳𝘢 Elm. a tree endemic to the Philippines which was collected in March 1931.

#SpecimenSpotlight | Today we're featuring an ant from our Entomological Collection which was collected 100 years ago 😉📷 This 𝘖𝘥𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘰𝘮𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘶𝘴 𝘪𝘯𝘧𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘶𝘴 (Smith, 1858) was collected by Entomologist Dr. Leopoldo B. Uichanco in September 1923.

NEWS | Researchers from the @UPLBMuseum and staff of its NICER CAVES Program recently reported a new habitat use record for 𝘉𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘰𝘱𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘢 𝘢𝘣𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘢 Blume 1827, a plant that parasitizes the roots of other plants.

#SpecimenSpoltight | Pittas are medium sized birds with brightly coloured plumage and longish legs and feet.Those found in the Philippines are said to be different for having a fully black hood.

#SpecimenSpotlight | Just recently, the species has been renamed to 𝘊𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘢 𝘱𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘱𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘴 with common name 'Philippine Box Turtle.' Although it is found across South East Asia, it is listed as Vulnerable by the IUCN Red List due to large illegal trade.

#SpecimenSpotlight | The Marbled Water Monitor is a large species of of monitor lizard in the Philippines and is referred to by locals as “bayawak.”

#SpecimenSpotlight | The North Philippine Temple Pit Viper is a venomous snake with a triangular head which is very distinct from its body. It is exclusively arboreal (tree-dwelling) and has heat-sensing pits on the side of the head.
