Specialist Sara did a group safety activity with 3 PE Mechanics. They talked about the 8 Steps and the Dos & Don’ts that go into safely lifting and lowering items while working at UPS. After, the 3 participated on moving a large package safely & effectively @NortheastBaSE#safety
One of our Mechanics in Hartford, Danny, demonstrates how to properly lift large objects and packages. He highlighted how your feet should be at least shoulder width apart, to keep the object close to your power zone, and to pivot your feet while turning (not to twist).
With the weather slowly warming up and summer approaching, it will be crucial to stay hydrated at work! So, go grab yourself a bottle and start sipping on that H2O because you don’t want to end up like Spongebob!

Here Tyler demonstrates the proper way to lift/lower objects above eye level using tools, such as load stands you can see above the object and remove any potential dangers then you can move the object while keeping it in your power-zone. @safetyfirstNED#nedaugust2020takeaway
Today, Tyler went over a lift and lower technique for objects above eye level. In this photo it is demonstrated what not to do, reaching out of your power-zone with out being able to see objects with potential to fall. #whatnottodo@safetyfirstNED#nedaugust2020takeaway
For combating Struck by/Struck against injury, our mechanic Derrick shows care for head injury by properly ducking below a conveyor on his way to a repair. As he drives away, he slows down and looks to avoid hitting people and poles ##nedjuly2020takeaway@safetyfirstNED
Finally Dan lifts the object with a smooth motion bringing it up to his power zone, he turns by pivoting and using his feet and not to twist his back, and if Dan needs help he is always sure to ask. Thank you Carrie for helping the team! #liftlower@safetyfirstNED@NortheastBaSE
After getting oriented Dan then performs the next steps of a proper lift, by bending at the knees to keep the natural curve of the back before testing the objects weight and to check for shifting contents. #liftlowerNED@safetyfirstNED@NortheastBaSE
Here our mechanic Dan Chasse demonstrates the first 2 steps of proper lifting which is to get close to the object and to set your feet in order to keep the object in your power zone and to establish a solid foundation for lifting. #liftlowerNED@safetyfirstNED@NortheastBaSE
