NEW AD: Running nationally, and in states along the Gulf Coast, we're calling on Congress to take action to restore the critical American shipbuilding industry, create American jobs, and protect our shores.
Today, on National Maritime Day, we honor the generations of American workers who built and sustained the vessels that powered our economy, supported our military, and connected our nation to the world.
We also honor those who continue to build, maintain, and man our fleets.
The United States cannot afford to fall further behind in shipbuilding, repair, and maritime logistics. Rebuilding America’s maritime strength starts with investing in U.S. yards, U.S. workers, and U.S. supply chains.
Let’s end the Jones Act waivers, implement provisions of the Maritime Action Plan and pass the SHIPS for America Act, and end the discussion of offshoring the future of shipbuilding.
We can do this.
#NationalMaritimeDay
We’re not buying into foreign shipyards—we’re having them invest in U.S. shipbuilding.
By bringing their operations stateside, we can crank out our ships quicker and create over half a million American jobs.
It’s time to breathe new life into our nation’s industrial base.
Great to speak with American Maritime leaders and students on the need to revitalize U.S. shipbuilding and thank them for their support of the SHIPS Act.
Under @POTUS leadership, @SecDuffy and @DOTMARAD are restoring America’s maritime dominance.
Congress must pass the SHIPS Act now to provide the tools and resources they need.
China is outpacing American shipbuilding because we’ve let our maritime industry decay for too long. The SHIPS for America Act will rebuild American shipping and shipbuilding, create good-paying jobs, and strengthen our national security.
“…the nation needs over 1,300 commercial ships in various classes to mitigate Chinese economic coercion and meet our military needs.”
Passing my SHIPS Act is critical to reviving America’s maritime industry.

In 2024, China built 1,400 ships. We built five. American’s maritime industry has been neglected for too long, and reviving it will strengthen our country and create great-paying jobs.

WATCH:
America needs more ships; it’s an economic and national security necessity.

Building more ships will bolster our national security and provide new opportunities for American workers.
As this new coalition demonstrates, there is broad recognition that we need to revive American shipbuilding.

From Defense Forum Washington: Jason Potter, Performing the Duties of the Assistant Secretary of the Navy, details the Warfighting Acquisition System's approach to speeding up production in the shipbuilding industry: Stabilize, Distribute, Grow.
Today at Defense Forum Washington—Senator Mark Kelly on shortages impacting our shipbuilding industry: "The United States increasingly relies on foreign built, foreign flagged, foreign crewed commercial ships to move critical goods, including the materials and equipment that we will need in any kind of military contingency." Kelly noted that of the more than 50,000 merchant vessels supporting global trade and commerce today, only 80 are U.S. flagged, with very few of those vessels being built in the United States.
America Can’t Make What the Military Needs: "China currently produces more than three warships for every one the United States makes, and nearly 200 commercial ships for every American boat." https://t.co/MVbIJPQ4vQ
Today, @SenMarkKelly and @SenToddYoung announced that they will reintroduce the SHIPS for America Act on the Senate floor.
