An FDA-approved treatment from almost 6 years ago is changing the game for benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate).
In this video, @DrMihirDesai, a nationally and internationally recognized expert in robotic, laparoscopic and endourologic surgery at Keck Medicine of USC and Professor of Clinical Urology at Keck School of Medicine, breaks down Aquablation, the first robotic, image-guided, WATER-based therapy for BPH.
No heat. No lasers. No electrical energy. Just precision-guided water.
✅ Treats larger prostates
✅ Minimizes side effects, especially on sexual function
Our step-by-step video article on image-fusion-guided IRE for prostate cancer is now out. Our early series showed favorable short-term functional and cancer control. We hope this practical guide helps disseminate the technique.

Congratulations to our CHLA faculty, Dr. Laura Perin and Dr. Astgik Petrosyan, on being named recipients of the 2026 Wright Foundation Pilot Grants! 🎉
Dr. Perin's project will evaluate combination nanotherapeutics for Wilms tumor, while Dr. Petrosyan's research will investigate extracellular matrix-driven immune suppression in high-risk Wilms tumor.
Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition! 👏 #CancerResearch #PediatricCancer #WilmsTumor #ResearchExcellence #USC #CHLA
The project, led by Evgeniy Kreydin, will combine advanced brain imaging, clinical bladder testing, and a noninvasive therapy called transcutaneous spinal cord stimulation. The researchers aim to identify imaging biomarkers, or measurable features seen on brain scans, that can help predict which stroke survivors are most likely to benefit from the treatment. https://t.co/NEyIL6onfJ #uscurology #stroke #nih #urinaryincontinence
Bladder cancer is a malignancy that comes from the lining of the urinary bladder, and it can really come in two different forms.
@AnneSchuckmanMD, a urologic oncologist at Keck Medicine of USC and an associate professor of clinical urology at the Keck School of Medicine, explains the basics of bladder cancer, including the differences between non-muscle invasive and muscle-invasive disease, common symptoms, and key risk factors.
One of the most common warning signs of bladder cancer is visible blood in the urine. While smoking is the most well-known and preventable risk factor, bladder cancer can affect individuals who have never smoked as well.
Understanding the signs and risk factors can help support earlier detection and treatment.

As men get older, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), or an enlarged prostate, becomes increasingly common. While it isn't cancerous, BPH can significantly affect quality of life by causing symptoms such as difficulty urinating, frequent or urgent trips to the bathroom, waking up multiple times during the night, and even urinary leakage before reaching the restroom.
In this video, Dr. Monish Aron, urologic oncologist with @KeckMedicineUSC, explains what BPH is, why it develops, and the treatment options available. Many patients find relief with medication, and for those whose symptoms persist, minimally invasive surgical procedures can provide an effective solution.
At Keck Medicine of USC, our urology specialists provide comprehensive care for a wide range of urologic conditions, including enlarged prostate, prostate, kidney, bladder, and testicular cancers, kidney stones, and other disorders of the urinary tract. By combining advanced technology with the latest minimally invasive techniques, we deliver personalized treatment plans designed to help patients regain comfort, confidence, and quality of life.
