🇺🇸✨ Celebrating Jewish American Heritage Month ✨🇺🇸
This May we celebrated several Jewish-Americans with Egyptian roots who have carried pieces of Egypt’s rich cultural heritage with them to the United States, helping shape American journalism, literature, and public life.

Rabbi Haim Moussa Douek, the last chief rabbi of Egypt, moved to Brooklyn, New York, in 1972 where he advocated for Jewish communities across the Middle East.

Lucette Lagnado was born in Cairo before emigrating to the United States, where she became a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author. Through her acclaimed memoir The Man in the White Sharkskin Suit, she introduced American audiences to the experiences of Egypt’s Jewish community.

André Aciman was born in Alexandria to a Jewish family deeply connected to the city’s cultural life before settling in the United States and becoming a prominent American academic and novelist known for exploring memory, exile, and Mediterranean identity in his work.

Richard Ben Cramer, whose family traced roots to the Egyptian Jewish diaspora, became one of America’s most influential journalists and authors, widely recognized for his impactful writing on American politics.

Their stories reflect Egypt’s long history of Jewish heritage and the enduring connections between Egypt and the United States. #JAH

A Life of Dignity and Quiet Strength

The Jerusalem Strategic Tribune family is profoundly saddened to announce the passing of Mrs. Meriem Charai, beloved mother of Mr. Ahmed Charai, Publisher of the Jerusalem Strategic Tribune.

Mrs. Meriem Charai was an exceptional woman — a woman of dignity, grace, faith, and quiet strength. She belonged to a generation that understood that family, community, generosity, and love for others are not simply values to be spoken of, but principles to be lived every day.

Raised in a family shaped by public service and moral responsibility, she carried through life a deep sense of duty, compassion, loyalty, and respect for others.

Above all, she was a mother who shaped the hearts and character of her children. She instilled in them the love of family, the importance of sharing, the duty of generosity, and the belief that human beings are brought closer not by division, but by understanding and kindness.

These values profoundly shaped Mr. Ahmed Charai. His lifelong commitment to dialogue, coexistence, bridge-building, and public service carries the imprint of the moral education he received from his mother. In many ways, the spirit that inspired his work was first nurtured at home, by her example.

Mrs. Meriem Charai leaves behind a legacy of dignity, generosity, and quiet strength — a legacy that will endure through her family and through the values she so deeply embodied.

The Jerusalem Strategic Tribune community extends its deepest condolences to Mr. Ahmed Charai and his family at this time of immense sorrow.

May God grant her eternal rest and surround her loved ones with strength and peace.

This milestone reflects more than 60 years of collaboration between Egypt’s national carrier and an iconic American company, supporting innovation, connectivity, sustainability, and economic growth in both our countries.

The new aircraft will help connect travelers across regional and international destinations with greater fuel efficiency, lower emissions, and enhanced passenger comfort.
