When Should Humans Override Chess Engines? Dr, @Alexey_Root, WIM, and her son William sat down with Dr. Jon Edwards — an ICCF GM and the 32nd World Correspondence Chess Champion — to ask him this and other questions at the forefront of engine analysis in correspondence chess.
Dr. Edwards is one of many experts who will be speaking this weekend at the 2026 Saint Louis Chess Conference, presented by US Chess, @STLChessClub, and @Kasparov_Chess

Wesley So had reached an equal rook endgame, but 48...Rxg3? is a losing move! If Sam Sevian wins, Wesley will have to play Fabiano Caruana in the playoffs tomorrow!

🏆 WE HAVE A CHAMPION! 🏆
At just 16 years old, Rachael Li has done it! A draw in the final round was all she needed to clinch the title, making her the 2026 U.S. Women’s Champion! 🇺🇸
Congratulations, Rachael, on an incredible performance and a well-deserved championship!
The final round is here! 🔔🇺🇸
U.S. Chess President John Fernandez rings the bell to kick off the final round of the U.S. Chess Championships.
Will the leaders clinch the titles today, or will we see a playoff tomorrow? One final round remains, and anything can still happen!

The last round of the 2026 #USChessChamps begins momentarily in St. Louis! @WesleySo_ and WIM Rachael Li each need only a draw to clinch clear first.
We might still see some spectacular games on the remaining boards, however, if yesterday was any indication. Check out GM Luka Budisavljevic's annotations on @SamShankland's win against GM Samuel Sevian's Poisoned Pawn Najdorf, @Tatev__A's triple piece sac, and more!

White to move and wins!
Rachael Li found a stylish way to finish off her dominant game against Jennifer Yu.
Can you find the winning sequence?

Today I played IM Carissa Yip in round 5 of US Champs. And I won! Below she played Kf7 which is a mistake after b4 Qa4 Rxd4 cxd4 Qf4, the exchange sac was important to further weaken her dark squares. After this white is objectively winning.
