We welcome the comments in parliament from Small Business Minister Blair McDougall, responding to a statement on retail crime by former shop worker and member of the Usdaw Parliamentary Group, Daniel Francis MP ๐ฃ๏ธ
Nearly four in five of our members working in retail are being abused, threatened and assaulted for simply doing their job and serving the community - we must continue to tackle retail crime.

Parliament debates the high street: Usdaw MP calls on the Government to go further on tackling the retail crime that blights our shops https://t.co/AuL9dhNKMD
Nigel Farage hasn't voted in parliament for 11 WEEKS, with his voting record ranking amongst the LOWEST of all MPs โ
His last vote was AGAINST draft regulations for the Employment Rights Act, the biggest uplift to workers' rights in a generation.
Reform UK have proven again that they are NOT a friend to working people.
๐ 50 years as an Usdaw member ๐
Susan Thomas has been presented with an award for 50 years as an Usdaw member by Branch Chair Raktima Sarkar! ๐
Susan credits her dad, a lifelong trade-unionist himself, with igniting her interest in the trade union movement. She joined Usdaw in 1976 whilst working for a dry cleaners and became a rep just 1 year later โ
Susan has been a member of the Usdaw womenโs committee, chair of the political committee and involved in several wage negotiations for members. She says the best thing about being an Usdaw rep has been getting the opportunity to help people ๐
Susan is still active within the union, regularly attending branch meetings and getting involved in local politics ๐ฃ๏ธ
Huge congratulations to Susan on this amazing achievement and thank you for all of your incredibly valuable work within our union ๐
๐ General Secretary Joanne Thomas and President Jane Jones joined Area Organiser George Fry for a visit to Tesco in Exeter to meet our hard-working reps John West, Jo Hale, Robert Coade, David Kerry and store manager Liam Moscato. Keep up the good work! ๐ค
The comments speak for themselves.
Retail workers are tired of being filmed and posted online while simply trying to do their jobs and the stories shared with us have been impossible to ignore ๐
We will continue fighting for retail workers to be treated with the dignity and respect they deserve โ
We're joining the Irish Congress of Trade Unions in calling for the NI Executive to bring forward the Good Jobs Employment Bill before the summer recess ๐ฃ๏ธ
There should be no further delay in improving the lives of workers across Northern Ireland โ
@StoneAgeDodger@UsdawUnion CCTV is not the same as some random filming on their phone. No one is posting the CCTV footage all over the internet. Retail workers deserve respect and privacy. No one should be plastered all over social media for simply doing their job.
Imagine your most challenging day at work being filmed and posted online for thousands to see... ๐ฅ๐ฑ
Filming retail workers is becoming an epidemic - weโre calling for an end to all recording in stores by the general public unless direct consent has been given ๐ต
Retail workers deserve respect, privacy and the right to do their jobs without fear of being publicly shamed, mocked or targeted online โ
Thank you to our members and reps who attended Birmingham Pride at the weekend! ๐
This summer, we'll be attending pride events throughout the UK, celebrating, supporting and standing in solidarity with LGBT+ members ๐ณ๏ธโ๐๐ณ๏ธโโง๏ธ

With temperatures soaring over the next few days, we welcome the CCC's recommendation that a maximum working temperature should be introduced to protect staff across the UK ๐ก๏ธโ๏ธ
During the hot weather, employers should be taking steps to help workers keep cool, such as:
๐ฐ Provision of cool drinks
๐ More frequent breaks
๐ Relaxed dress code
โ๏ธ Provision of sunscreen (SPF 30 and above)
