As therapists in training, how can we use our privilege to address the grief and trauma that the black community is facing right now?
Posted @withregram • @grieftips It is our duty to do everything in our power to stand up against white supremacy.
Therapy is political.

this ain't news either, this is obvious shit and I recommend following @nic.mcdermid @the_queer_counselor
@margeaux.feldman @decolonizingtherapy @dobetter_consulting and @consent_and_liberation who all speak about this frequently and who have voices you should listen to
Examining power imbalances is essential for all therapists.

power imbalances are perpetuated within gender, age, class, bodies, culture, race, education, institutions, access to healthcare , politics and societal structures...
when you do not acknowledge the realities of the power imbalance and how they may show up in the therapy space, you're at risk of harming individuals because the therapeutic relationship has the potential to reinforce inequality and oppression.

How do we, as practitioners, resist covert white supremacy in our practice?
@withregram • @theconsciouskid White supremacy is a system of structural and societal racism which privileges white people over everyone else, regardless of the presence or absence of racial hatred.
If you are unsure of what any of these terms mean, please feel free to look them up. There is an abundance of scholarship and research on each of these things.
Think about the lack of support from most white colleagues, who close ranks to support their own. Think.

How can we make sure voices of historically oppressed groups are heard and validated in and outside of therapy? How do we ensure that white privilege is checked at our office doors? How can we examine power differentials?

Think about the pain I have had to revisit to write this. Think about the starkly different standards I am held up to. Think about the almost embarrassing power differential. Think about my internal battle with my internalised power differential, and feeling on the back foot.
How can we take care of ourselves? How can we release and embrace abundance?
