After being assigned to write a slam poem about an issue she cared about, she chose abortion because her own family's story began with an unexpected pregnancy and a courageous choice for Life.

Instead of being allowed to share her poem, she was told she couldn't present it because it was pro-life.

Today, we cut the ribbon on the new Freedom Plaza and unveiled 13 new statues honoring the heroes of the American Revolution.

For a time, it all seemed hopeless. We watched statues torn down, our history erased, and many wondered if America was losing sight of who we are.

But 250 years ago, it seemed hopeless then, too.

Our Founders were a ragtag band of patriots standing against the most powerful empire in the world. They endured defeat, sacrifice, and impossible odds. Yet they refused the easy path of submission or compromise because they believed liberty was worth fighting for.

These statues are a reminder that America's story is worth preserving, our history is worth honoring, and the ideals our Founders fought for are worth defending.

As we celebrate 250 years of independence, may Freedom Plaza stand as a lasting tribute to the courage, sacrifice, and love of country that gave birth to the greatest nation on Earth. 🇺🇸

My response: You do not speak for me.

Yes, I proudly put George Washington on my America 250 Cousin T’s pancake box. He owned slaves, but that is not his entire legacy. He was also our first president and helped build the nation that gave people like me the freedom to rise.

So while Al Sharpton is calling for a boycott, I am calling for Black Americans to stop letting professional outrage merchants convince us that patriotism belongs only to white people.
