“Under the current system that operates in Pakistan, there is an inherent benefit to those at the very top of the food chain to keep a large proportion of those below them away from financial and intellectual liberation.” My take for @dawn_com https://t.co/GGHihWhvZx
“Beware The Court of Owls, that watches all the time, ruling Gotham from a shadowed perch, behind granite and lime. They watch you at your hearth, they watch you in your bed, speak not a whispered word of them, or they'll send the Talon for your head.”
Real DC fans will get it.
“The bottom line is that our economic health often feels like an afterthought, dwarfed by constant political bickering.”
Some reflections on our policy choices and solutions worth focusing on for @dailytimespak a couple of weeks back. https://t.co/2V808vZhor
We're excited to announce that @imperiallibrary will be named the Abdus Salam Library in recognition of Nobel Prize winning physicist, Professor Abdus Salam.

Bad media analysis enables bad politics.
Make a timeline of Dar's comments about IMF since last Fall. Ask why the original budget & policy rates weren't in line with requirements. Tell the story behind allegedly massaged GDP numbers. Ask IMF why it thinks taxes are progressive.
@MirMAKOfficial The government doing the absolute bare minimum to keep the country afloat is being celebrated like they’ve just ended world hunger 😂 you have to see it to believe it.
Will end this rant here but I encourage us all to introspect. Are you really confident that the flag bearers of the old system have the moral authority to govern a nation so deeply in crisis?
Will they ever challenge the status quo to the detriment of their personal benefit?
The latest narrative confirms one thing: it is impossible for systemic change to be implemented - at least in this generation.
The egos of a handful of deeply flawed old men with delusions of grandeur take precedence over the interest of the populace. Same as it’s always been.
In the space of afew months we’ve seen alot.
Blatant disregard for the constitution, officials jeering at the violation of fundamental rights such as privacy amongst many others and a Finance Minister high on nepotism who assaults journalists questioning his evident incompetence
@vanillasky458 Even fiscal discipline for the sake of optics requires some level of competence.
Dar isn’t consulting with economic analysts across the globe like he should be rn. He thinks these small biased policy choices will go unnoticed and he will still have glory in the end. Shame.
@MirMAKOfficial Extra emphasis on point 6 and 7 - if the figures currently being reported for the UAE’s Karachi port lease are accurate then I’m truly in shock at the logic which must have been used to approve such a valuation.
@Roohan_Ahmed Not too long ago - this man left Pakistan because of corruption cases. Now his frozen assets have been restored and he struts around like a king while bullying journalists who dare question the power bestowed upon him by emperor Nawaz.
Only in 🇵🇰 will you find such drama.
Pakistan has very few tech startups. Most of the startups are "service startups": startups which are automating some service e.g. food delivery, grocery delivery, B2B, taxi hailing, online tickets etc. While some of these startups have a lot of potential, the tech behind them is fairly ordinary. Most of their valuation comes from the number of their users -- not due to the innovation in technology.
As an example, Amazon is both a service (e-commerce) and a tech (AWS) startup. It's tech part is much more scalable and profitable than the service part.
Pakistan needs more tech startups, where the innovation and intellectual property of the tech makes the startup valuable. For this, we need better product designers, architects, developers and engineers. Our universities are simply not producing enough of these ...
We can’t complain about a ‘brain drain’ when this is how we as a state treat the top tier of our honest and competent professionals.
What my friend’s family has gone through today and what many other families have surely suffered from must stop. The madness must cease.
Not only was my father abducted, but also his driver, whose only mistake was to be present inside the car at that time. Just shows you the level of madness that is surrounding us.
My disagreement with this man’s political values aside - one can’t help but be in awe of the tenacity required to keep running through the vicious cycle that is Pakistani politics at the age of 77.

“Kab Ashq bahaanay se kati hai shab e hijraan”
Aur kab koi bala sirf duaon se tali hai”
Powerful recitation by Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan. Our political elite of today who rely solely on obnoxiously loud rants to engage with crowds could certainly learn a thing or two here.
